Dtc P2010??????

So...I've had my car ('04 rx8) for about two years now and this is the first problem I've ever had with it. My check engine light came on a couple of days ago, went off, came on again, went off again, and no it seems to be on for good. I tried to scan it with my cheap little Actron scanner but it would not link so ended up paying $60 to have some guy take 10 minutes to do what would normally take me 2! Anyway, it returned a P2010: Intake Manifold Runner Control Circuit High Bank 1. Can someone tell me what the HE!! that means?

Thanks for anything you can tell me. I've done a search and all I found was something about an "APV motor" (I think that's what it was), what the HE!! is that too?

I have downloaded copies of the shop manual available at various places on the net.
The version I have at the moment, doesn't list a P2010 code. Also, an Actron and other scanners are made for general use and the message displayed may not fit for a rotary engine.

I know the code exists, I've seen it posted on here numerous times in DTC listings, I just don't know what it means. Is it just bad...or really bad? Can I keep driving with it or should I stop? What can I do to fix it? I think the problem with my Actron scanner is it is not CAN compatible. I purchased it back in 2001. I think I just need to get a new one.

They both reference your error code.

Yeah, those are the only two posts I can find referencing it. One wasn't much help but the other talked about the APV motor being gunked up and just needed cleaned, unfortunately it cost $1,100 to fix it. I just need to find the details on what/where it is and figure out how to do it myself. Someone in there said the entire motor had to be pulled to do it, not something I would be looking forward to. Then there's the matter of how to clean it? I'm guessing it's just like every other related code and it's just clogged up with carbon, which is weird in the first place, I definitely don't drive it gingerly.

Just had the same problem P2010 (Intake Manifold Runner Cntrl Circuit High (Bank 1))... but nonsense for the repairs or labor costs... except if its the PCM..

DETECTION CONDITION

• The PCM monitors the APV motor control current when the engine is running. If the control current is less than 0.1 A or more than 10 A, the PCM determines that there is an APV motor control open circuit.
Diagnostic support note

• This is a continuous monitor (CCM).
• The MIL illuminates if the PCM detects the above malfunction condition in two consecutive drive cycles or in one drive cycle while the DTC for the same malfunction has been stored in the PCM.
• PENDING CODE is available if the PCM detects the above malfunction condition during the first drive cycle.
• FREEZE FRAME DATA is available.
• The DTC is stored in the PCM memory.

POSSIBLE CAUSE

• APV motor malfunction
• Connector or terminal malfunction
• Open circuit in wiring harness between APV motor terminal D and PCM terminal 3G
• Short to power supply in wiring harness between APV motor terminal D and PCM terminal 3G
• Short to GND in wiring harness between APV motor terminal D and PCM terminal 3G
• Open circuit in wiring harness between APV motor terminal B and PCM terminal 3J
• Short to power supply in wiring harness between APV motor terminal B and PCM terminal 3J
• Short to GND in wiring harness between APV motor terminal B and PCM terminal 3J
• PCM malfunction

yes, you have to troubleshoot the APV intake valve system as described above

https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-do-yourself-forum-73/diy-troubleshoot-intake-valves-174009/

and also need to learn how to search ...

Just got the same DTC/CEL and the dealer charged me $95.00 for a new control motor or gear. Said that the air intake damper was stuck open all the time and I need a new gear or control piece. . .
Searched and found your video, well done thanks for sharing!
