Angry Dealer says swapping leather seats in for cloth = no heated seats!

I could use some tips/advice here. I got some '05 leather seats put in my '06 sport, got the console with the heater buttons and had the heated seats working but had the airbag light on, Code 16, for the weight sensor in the passenger seat. The dealer said they'd swap the air bag module and seat sensor but actually ended up swapping the guts of my original cloth seats in for the leather ones, which meant the airbag light was off but now there's no heat (because there's no heat in the original cloth seats.) This was for $357... they got the airbag light off but basically deleted my heated seats without telling me they were doing this.

So now I want them to give me both, airbag light off with the heat in there. They're saying they'll look at it but can't promise anything, I may only be able to have one or the other, that if their 28-year experienced Mazda tech is "uncomfortable" with it, they won't do it, they'll just put everything back the way it was and refund my 300 bucks... which means I'd be back to no airbag plus lost all this time and hassle of dragging the old seats up and back there, time in and out picking up and dropping off, arguing on the phone, etc. (A million thanks to JAQ61 for helping me with everything all the time with unending patience!)

SO my question is, can you put '05 leather seats in an '06 sport and have both the airbags working AND the heated seats working?

Should be able too...sounds like the weight sensor isn't working properly in the new leather seat

The answer is yes and a handful of people have done this already. I suspect the issue with your passenger seat was wiring. If it didn't work at all you would probably have CEL's for both seats no?

Yeah, they got the airbag sensors in and programmed and working, I don't have the airbag light anymore, which is good. The problem now is that in the process of getting that working, they removed the parts that had the heater wire, so there's no way to hook up the heated seats anymore. I want them to put back the parts for the heat to work again but they're saying they don't know if I can have both, the correctly working airbag sensors AND the heated seat parts.

that doesnt' make any sense what so ever. My car has heated seats and an airbag, granted it came like that, but that seems a little silly that it doesn't work.

you would rather have them swap it? So no airbag.... but heated seats?

What's more important in a crash? a warm ***... or one that went through the windsheild?

Well. it may come off mean. I'm not trying to be, theres no point in that. But You really should think about which of those two things is more important. If you can get both, you should obviously do it. But I wouldn't start messing with the safety features. a passenger might not feel comfortable knowing there is no airbag.

I've always felt that a lot of winter accidents were caused by the driver shivering instead of paying attention to the road. That makes heated seats a safety factor.

Buckling up is the primary crash protection...I'd count on that (and a non-shivering driver) over air bags any day.

Where did I say I'd rather have heated seats than airbags? I took it in to get the airbags fixed and they deleted the heat, now I'm asking how to get them to fix what they got rid of, not get rid of the airbags.

So now I want them to give me both, airbag light off with the heat in there
Sheesh

05 does not. 06+ has it.

Its "doable". but you are going to have to find the sensor's resistance, short it with whatever. then put it back, it will be gone.

Thats because 04-05's seat does not have seat sensor in them. So yeah you will get an airbag error code.

but getting the airbag working but totally kills your heat is kinda ... cuz as far as I know heat control has a different wire than the airbag, its coming from the same harness but it should be different (I could be wrong)

Apparently the problem is there is no heater wire anymore after they changed stuff around to make the airbags work. They have to put a new harness in with the heater wire, which they're not going to want to do, I'm sure. I'm taking it back in in about ten days to see what they're going to do. I may have to go with some aftermarket heater thing rather than go back to heat but no airbags.
