Congealing Oil

Long story short: The oil in my car has started showing congealed oil on the top of the dipstick. I called my Mazda dealer and they said to bring it in, that it didn't sound good. They checked it out, did an oil change and basically told me that it's normal for the car to do that after 3,000 miles of driving. I've had this car for a year now and it's only started doing this within the last few months.

Does anyone know if this is normal or not?

It's normal for cool / cold climates where are you? I never see the gunk when it's warm out.

Well three winters of gunk , 66,000 miles and all is still well. I would not take my car in for this. The less your car is at the dealer the better, especially when the only think they can do is hide the gunk from your view.

They have a TSB to eliminate the oil congealing on the dipstick. This TSB just keeps the congealing oil off of the dispstick, but does not elminate the problem. You could install a catch can to allow your system to breathe, which seems to have elminated condensate build-up on some RX-8's.

The oil should be changed every Four months, weather you drove 3k or not in those four months. It gets contaminated....how long has it been since you changed it? If you never get the engine really heated up for more then 20-30 mins, the moisture will not evaporate.

Happens all the time to the Buick in the winter. You need to warm it up more.
