Unhappy code P2010 pops up. loss of power above 7k rpms

hey I was driving my car and engine light came up. I have loss of power at 7k rpm's. the code says p2010. been trying to do some research but havn't really found anything about this code. I took my ssv out and cleaned it. I took it out 2 months prior. 2 months ago it was gunked all to hell. this time when I took it out it looked clean as a whistle. so I have no idea what to do. I am thinking is might be the APV. but I'm not sure.

It's weird that I just had the same problem today.
I am going to have it checked with the dealer tomorrow.

and yes auzoom i have read that thread. That is part of the reason i think is is the APV now. i have no problem taking things apart as I am a mechanic in the Air Force. so if i can figure out what it is i dont mind doing it. its just the research in finding out what i need to do.

hey thanks Jon. I actually read that post too. and i got alot of insight from it. i dont know why he didnt reply. well i plan on Seafoaming my car this weekend. i can only do it during the weekend cause with my schedule with the Air Force im awake at night and sleep during the morning. reving my car up at night would not be a good idea. if seafoaming doesnt work then im going to test the wires that go to it. but ironically it started to mess up after i topped off the oil. maybe i poured a little to much in. and i don't have a catch can yet. oh also year and stuff.

its a 2004 6 speed with 85,000 miles on it. it has a mazdaspeed intake and im not sure what exhaust. i purchased it from my best friend 4 months ago. and it was on there when he got it. i think its borla though

Hey guys, I assume it was my original post you are talking about.
https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...ighlight=P2010

Sorry for the delay in getting back with you. Check out the results! As a side note, when doing my research, I found another internet site which specified the following "There are auxiliary ports feeding each rotor which only open when the APV (auxiliary port valve) operates. It looks significant in terms of engine performance. It activates at 6000RPM". This would be further backup of what Jon said. Especially if you are having performance issues around 7000rpm.

Thanks Jon, you rule!

Well tonight when I get off work I'm going to put some seafoam in my gas. Hope it works and tomorrow I'll be seafoaming the engine and looking at the cat to see if that might be it too. My car has 85k miles so the cat is getting pretty old

Well I just got off work and I put some seafoam in my gas. After driving 20 minutes and driving it hard I have noticed better performance in the lower rpm. When I hit 7k it still bogs alot. But at about 7600 it gets a surge of power till about 8100 then bogs and has no power to redline. I'll drive it hard tomorrow morning. But I'm also going to seafoam my engine and look at the cat. If that doesn't work I'm going to take the apv motor out and test it. And if that doesn't work I guess I'll have to take the intake out to and look. I really don't wanna drop the engine so I'll figure it out and take the intake off with out dropping it. I know everyone says it's a pita. But oh well.

Nikonforever1- I wasn't convinced with the seafoam in the gas idea, especially when you consider where the valves are and what it would take to free them if they are stuck.
In Barbie's case... I honestly think it helped more when they "ran the crap out of it" because they would have been cycling the APV.

Instead of Seafoam in the gas tank, its better to do it through the maintenance ports (Mazda's procedure) so you can let it settle for an hour.
Again... given where the APV barrels are, its not going to concentrate completely there, but it would be better than injecting it with your fuel.

Also... its better (and easier) to test the motor with it still installed on the intake manifold.
The links I provided above have some instructions and illustrations on how to hook it up.
But by cycling the motor with it installed, you are also going to cycle the valves/barrels.
Its loud enough to where you can actually hear them cycling... so you'll know.
But cycling the valves back and forth would also help to free them if they are stuck.

And removing the intake manifold with the engine still installed is a real PITA.
You'll still need to remove the motor mounts so that you can swing the engine back and forth.
Once you begin to slide the manifold out of the engine, you'll need to remove the valves since they will still be inside the engine.
Each one is held on by a tiny 8mm bolt that can break easily... so easy that you should hand-tighten it.
So what I'm saying is, try to free the valves by cycling the motor with it still installed... it'll save you a lot of hassle and headaches.

Ok an update. I did put some seafoam in my gas. Didn't help so this morning I did seafoam in the engine with the ports. Wow that's alot of white smoke. Haha. Helped my engine. But still having the same problem at 7k rpms. Took the cat out. Looked perfect but just to see ran the car with no cat just off the header. Same problem at 7k. Wow it was loud. Like really loud. So the cat isn't bad. And tomorrow I'll be testing the apv while it is still installed. So I narrowed alot of things down. I'll keep you guys updated. And Jon thank you very much for your help. I really do appreciate it.

Could be wrong here, but you should've let that seafoam sit in there awhile right?
Not that it would've acted any better, but I hope someone chimes in and confirms what I think.....should've let it sit awhile??????

How long did you let it sit?

I did what the instructions said on the diy for Mazda zoom cleaner. Disconnected the eccentric sensor 15 sec crank wait 1 min then another 15 sec crank. Then moved to the back nipple and repeat

Okay, that's cool. I've never had to do it(knocks on wood), so I was just pointing out that I may have read it on here somewhere.

I have a can in my garage and will probably run some through this Winter............or when it finally cools off in the state!
