When the car is cold, I cannot shift into any gear. When I let the car warm up completely or if it is warm outside, the car will go into gear, reluctantly at first but, once I drive around, it works somewhat normal.

In the winter, I can start it up in gear with the clutch pushed in and not 'drag' but, as soon as I start lifting the clutch, the car will go. Again, after driving around for a minute, it will start to act somewhat normal.

The clutch pedal bracket is not broken but, it is the original one when I bought it new in 2006. There is not any leakage for the slave or master, from what I can tell. The fluid level is still full as it has been for a long time.

Any ideas as to why this is happening and why it works better when the weather is warmer? I do have an aftermarket clutch in the car but, I can't remember the brand. Is there anything that can be done as in just adjusting? Any info would be helpful and thank you in advance.

 

Have you tried bleeding your clutch hydraulics?

 

Check the clutch pedal adjustment as well. Perhaps it is adjusted such that having it fully down doesn't produce full clutch disengagement. One quick way to test that is to put the car in 1st while stationary but not release the clutch, and see if the car crawls forward or if the rpms drop lower than when the car is in neutral with the clutch down.

 

I have not tried that yet as, I have not had the time and, the clutch has gotten worse in the last year but, I have not driven the car much in the last 1.5 years either. It was not like this after I got a new clutch and pressure plate put on. I am not sure what to think but, I will try Loki's idea and, bleed it, too.

If I have it in gear and floor it with the clutch pressed in, it will move forward some. It is like the adjustment got out of wack or something. I will try what both of you suggest. Thanks for the input.

At first, I thought it was the clutch bracket that broke like in my MS6. I had a friend check the pedal for cracks and/or breaks and, it was fine.

 

Yah, since the effect is temperature sensitive, I'd put money on air in the hydraulics.

 

Your pilot bearing may be shot. If the bearing it torn up it will tend to lock your engine to transmission whether you press the clutch or not, making shifting difficult.

I would try adjusting the clutch first, then check the master and slave cylinder for proper operation/leaks.

If both of those don't fix it, the transmission will have to come down. If the pilot bearing is shot/seized you may have difficulty pulling the transmission away from the engine...

 

Sorry if I'm in the wrong area. I'm having issues with my clutch pedal. When I first drive my car in the morning, everything is fine, but when I have some fun with my car, the clutch pedal starts to feel different. Normally I'll have about half an inch to an inch before I feel some resistance, but when it acts up, it seems it can go about 25-35% of the way until I feel resistance. Also, when it acts up, the clutch starts to engage when I hardly lift the pedal off the floor, when at normal times, I can bring the pedal up a little more before it starts to catch. If I drive the car normally from point a to b, it seems fine. Other times it'll act up is when I leave the car running for awhile, like today...I washed and vacuumed my car but when I was vacuuming it, I left it running for about 30-45 min and it started to feel as if it was acting up. I'm really hoping it's not the clutch going out....but I have a strong feeling it's the clutch slave cylinder. Thinking once the slave cylinder gets too hot, my problem starts. Again, sorry if I'm in the wrong section, was going to post my own thread, but can't seem to post a new one yet. And ty in advance for all the input

 

Pilot bearing is almost new. It was bad when I got it and a few other things changed out. I have tried to bleed it and, it did not help. The level has not moved and not loosing fluid, either. No bent clutch pedal support either.

How do you adjust the clutch? I have a speed6 and, the clutch is not the same as far as adjusting and, the pedal support was broken on it.
