so prior to buying my 8 which now has 102k Mazda told the origanal owner his clutch pedal was fine but his clutch would need to be replaced.

so I bought the car and set up getting a clutch installed.
Tonight the pedal broke.
so my question is. will they still cover the pedal and, seeing as the pedal is/was bad is there anyway that could have ruined the clutch to begin with?

I'm feeling it's likely the'll do nothing seeing as I'm 2k over the warranty, just feel like it was in their shop prior to me buying it and they serviced the vehicle, changing the shudder valve, plugs wires and upgrading the coils, but then said the pedal was fine and the clutch was the problem.(since I bought the car knowing about the clutch,I thought the squeak and stiffness of the pedal was the clutch) they also had replaced the pedal once before at 47k when they replaced the engine.

well wish me luck,I'm calling service first then going to talk to the local dealership.

Ugh, Caudrillas, I was in the same boat as you. Went in for service, and they blamed the 'hydraulics' and not the clearly broken bracket. I didn't realise it was broken until I looked at the bracket AFTER getting the car back. Seriously pissed.

Question for you all:

Is the bracket the only thing they replace? I remember a thread about someone getting the master cylinder replaced as well. Does this make sense? Is this reasonable?

The last thing I need is only the bracket being replaced, and then the master cylinder being broken and causing more problems from Mazda's mistake.

Get the clutch pedal bracket replaced first, then assess if there is something wrong with the master cylinder afterward.

tasex 06-01-2012 10:07 AM

Anyone find out if they got any money back for the brackets they have already purchased?

This must have already been addressed but its a long thread!

cuadrillas 06-01-2012 01:28 PM

So I found out the reason Mazda didnt replace my pedal was it was already replaced. So I called Mazda(not the dealer) and they cant or wont do anything but at lest they where gentile with me. :D

200.mph 06-01-2012 01:45 PM

iirc they didnt improve the design so your new one will probably break too. idk why people spend money on a bracket just take the pedal out and weld it. about a week after mine broke and i welded it i got the letter from mazda about the bracket problem. they said they would reimburse people if they paid for a repair/replacement but i didnt bill myself. pedal still feels great and i know its strong. just weld it up

Thats what I ended up doing. Its ugly and the spray paint dose little to hide that, its heavy but its strait and solid. Feels better than it did and, yeah I wasnt gonna give Mazda 130 or ? For a new one just to break it. Weld it!

Grace_Excel 09-07-2012 07:51 PM

Don't lolly-gag too long, send your bill with the letter to MNAO and get your reimbursement.

Shadowphox 09-08-2012 07:32 AM

Remove bracket on inside and then remove MC in engine compartment :)

speedracer2169 09-15-2012 12:11 PM

Clutch pedal snapped on me last night at dealership now going its replaced under warranty. Brought it in 3 months ago because it was squeaking but I was told since it didn't break they couldn't fix it but they greased it up so the noise goes away. Crossing my fingers now

nycgps 09-15-2012 12:58 PM

greasing it will not fix hardware problem, shit is already breaking apart that's why it's making contact + making noises.

techs ... pathetic.

speedracer2169 09-15-2012 08:37 PM

Well Mazda replaced it no questions asked so I'm good now.

ALXVA8 11-20-2012 08:46 AM

I have a 2004 RX-8 that snapped a clutch pedal assembly this morning...or so I believe from the way it now feel. My car is definitely beyond the 8 year warranty, but not yet at 100k miles. Should I be covered by Mazda for this service of getting a new clutch pedal assembly?

xpingux 11-21-2012 01:25 PM

Doesn't look that way, unfortunately. There's a company that does a brace that strengthens the pedal, but I don't know if it's for broken or unbroken clutch assemblies.

You could always go and call mazda USA/Canada and see what they say.

Take it to your dealership.

Get the clutch bracket from a dealer or one of the on-line parts suppliers. I have a strong feeling that the part number is somewhere in this thread. If you mean the reinforcing kit, that comes from Race Roots. They may be a forum vendor. Look them up in the Good Guys / Bad Guys forum for an interesting read.

Question. Has anyone had a noisy clutch pedal that was not related to it breaking? Lately mine makes noise intermittently. Sometimes no noise, sometimes it creaks like an old screen door with a rusty spring. I guess it's time to crawl under with a light and take a look.

Creaking usually means that it is on its way out, at least from what I have read and interpreted. Time for a re-enforcement bracket!
Thank you, I was looking to the re-enforcement bracket. :beer05:

Review this pix. This is where mine "tore" and was wobbly at this point so I could get to dealer under it's own power. This is after a snap noise when I started it one morning. Get free one installed at dealer. Call first to see if they have one in stock!! Very expensive assy.

If you don't want to pay $160.00 for the OEM clutch pedal bracket(part number: FE05-41-300C, you could purchase one of these.
RaceRoots Clutch Pedal Reinforcement Bracket
RotaryFX Clutch Reinforcement Bracket Kit
