Well, at least he has something hang his towel on at the beach.
Blackfire, why would you replace the bracket with a bracket which is the same, without reinforcing it. I dont think you can call them assholes if your warranty is up. |
Blackfire: Welding is sufficient. I chose to use the bracket also for added support. If you choose to weld and install the bracket, be very careful not to weld in places that will effect the installation of the bracket.
|
Keep in mind the "Modded" C OE Clutch Pedal Bracket did not happen until Sept 15th 2008, so anyone who had a new Bracket (B) installed before that date did not get the "revised" one.
|
I bought the "C" bracket three months before the Mazda recall was implemented. 34,000 miles and still holding. One issue everyone needs to check is the 12mm nut located on the upper left bolt. It's a tight area to have wrench or ratchet because of the cables and electrical wires. Make sure that nut is tight.

Again this is NOT a Recall!
It is a SSP (Special Service Programm), an extended 8 year warranty for ALL NA customers. From Mazda NAO to 8 Owners in the Warranty Period. Mazda Motor Corporation has decided to conduct a Special Service Program (SSP) to extend the warranty coverage for the clutch pedal assembly (replacement of the clutch pedal assembly due to a problem with the clutch pedal bracket) on certain 2004-2009 RX-8 vehicles, produced from April 10, 2003 through September 13, 2008. The warranty coverage for the clutch pedal assembly will be extended to 8 years (96 months) from the original warranty start date, with a 100,000 mileage limitation. If you are a recipient of this notice, your vehicle is included in this program. On certain 2004-2009 RX-8 vehicles, it is possible that the clutch pedal bracket may have a crack, causing an abnormal noise. If the clutch pedal continues to be operated with this condition, the clutch pedal bracket may break, changing the disengagement point of the clutch and possibly preventing the shifting of gears. If your RX-8 experiences this symptom, please make an appointment with a Mazda dealer to have the vehicle inspected. If the clutch and/or shifting problem is due to the broken clutch pedal bracket, your dealer will replace the clutch pedal assembly free of charge, during the terms of this warranty extension program. If your vehicle is functioning normally, there is no need to contact your dealer. We suggest keeping this letter with the vehicle’s warranty information booklet for future reference. If you have already paid for the replacement of the clutch pedal assembly due to a problem with the clutch pedal bracket, you may be eligible for reimbursement of reasonable repair expenses based on Mazda’s repair standards. Please complete the enclosed “Reimbursement Application Form,” including the necessary documentation, and mail it to us in the preaddressed envelope provided, allowing 6-8 weeks for processing. |

well first i expected the replacement was better, but before i replaced it i was using my old 1 that was welded but the original was having problems hence why i replaced it. I thought about getting a RR bracket but i honestly did not know it was the same thing i guess i jumped the gun on the letter i got and expected it to be a "recall" but LOL i learned my lesson now. I ordered my RR bracket and had to buy a brand new pedal, and I am waiting for a response from HQ either to refund me for the 2nd bracket. The dealer contacted HQ and stated that the pedal broke under a year after replacement and etc... so it is a possibility I will get my money back for it :)
On the other note I could weld the old 1 back together but I need my car up and running asap and the pedal is pretty mangled... It broke in 3 pieces...I would have welded it back together but I was on a time limit. I installed the new pedal but I am still dissatisfied since the switch for starting the car does not engage when pedal is depressed... The bracket the holds the switch is welded about 1-3mm too far back so the switch doesnt engine :( modification was involved... Thx for all the responses to help, but I was kind of venting since it has been problem after problem lately :( |

I would be looking in another direction if a "new" bracket has failed early and it was installed correctly.
1. Is the Clutch Master Cylinder OK? 2. Slave Cylinder.? 3. Clutch itself, if it is a "heavier" duty that OEM Exedy or a different Fly Wheel maybe? 4. Transmission ? |
I am currently thinking it is my new clutch since i got a Exedy Stage 1 HD, but even before that it was acting weird already. I wouldnt mind replacing both Master/Slave cylinder but its a pain and cost more money than I want :( I did buy the RR bracket and should be in soon so I plan to install it and weld up the new clutch pedal just for extra insurance :)
|
It is my understanding that the Exedy Stage 1 is the same clutch as OEM.
|
No. I replaced my OEM with Exedy Stage 1, and it is most definitely NOT the same clutch. OEM is an Exedy made clutch, but they are 2 different models.
|
Well it feels the same lol, but iono if it is the same but it could be
|
The stage 1 is slightly gripper and quite a bit more noisy than OEM.
If you can't tell the difference, then you either had a stage 1 and not an OEM, or you replaced it with another OEM (even if it was sold to you as a 'stage 1). |
Crappy Clutch Bracket
Mine broke with about 59,000 on it in the summer of 2010. Fourteen months later in the fall of 2011, it broke again. No way there's anything 'new or improved' about the new bracket. What a piece of crap.
|
You still should be checking the rest of your drive train (Clutch), any strain/pressure will go to the weakest link and sadly that is the Bracket.
|

mine is a 2004, however I did receive a letter stating that the pedal is cover for 100k or 10 years I know the mileages is right, the years not sure.
|
its 100k or 8 years
|
Even if you do exceed the warranty period. You can buy a new clutch then send the form along with the reciept for reimbursement.

My clutch pedal was replaced at 61k miles in 2009. This was before the recall, and everyone at Mazda (dealership and Mazda North America) treated me like I was crazy for blaming the part. It was replaced with the same flawed part that has 100k mile warranty on it when new. I was later reimbursed by mail after the problem was acknowledged.
Yesterday at 105240 miles my clutch pedal snapped again WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT RUSH HOUR. Ive known it was on it's way out since 90k miles. Again, everyone at Mazda told me it was fine back then. Mazda is denying my warranty claim. My argument is that the part should be warrantied for 100k miles from the time of install. Mazda offered me "two $50 gift certificates as a good will gesture". Im gonna let them hold on to those and am contacting the NHTSA, the BBB, and my lawyer buddy. This also finalizes whether or not my brother is going to get a new Mazda3. Bought the RaceRoots assembly and never giving Mazda another penny. Mazda is treating this as a joke, and I don't think it's funny. |

Mazda is treating this as a joke, and I don't think it's funny. Calm down a little... First this is NOT and never has been a recall.. Mazda with NHTSA have agreed to an 8 year 100,000 mile extended warranty only for NA. NO Manufacturer re-warranties a part to last another 100K miles, they would go broke. Once your 8 year or 100K is up so is any warranty. Parts are not meant to last forever, as a suggestion, is your Clutch Plate and PP Standard or a Heavier Duty Type?, modded??, I am suggesting you may have other issues in your clutch system IF the 09 Pedal has also broke. |
Am I the only one who believes Mazda's explanation that this is caused by improper installation? If that's the case, does the new part come with installation instructions? Or is there a shop manual section or TSB describing the proper procedure?

was driving out on Saturday evening, when suddenly I try to shift gear, the clutch pedal *snap sound*.... There is a squeaking noise when I decompress the clutch, not when I compress, the firmness is gone, and it feels a hell lot different than what I had been driving. I tried to find for any breakage, but without a real touchlight, I couldn't locate any real dmg. Additionally, when I press on the clutch pedal, it moves towards the brake pedal. So, both my shoes were grinding on the sides. I brought it back to the dealership this A.M. and I'm awaiting for them to check on it.
EDIT add: this is coming from a 2004' 59,169 mileage |

If you want a solid pedal, either the bracket from RR or the BHR assembly are the best bets. The bracket from RR requires drilling and will void the warranty on the pedal. The BHR assembly is an entirely new assembly/pedal, but won't break. Your call on which you go with. |
