I think they'll replace it only if it's starting to crack. It can squeal for two other reasons: the cut switch or something in the linkage needing to be lubed. My pedal's been squeaking intermittently for the past couple of years, with no change in feel or any problems yet. Had the dealer look at it, but it wasn't squeaking that day and they saw nothing.

Ken Same name too. -Ken |
As far as I can tell it looks pretty solid. No bending or discoloration in the area that breaks off... I'll probably get one of those reinforcement brackets to stay on the safe side... I took a pic of it, am I missing something that looks like a problem or does it look fine?

NO, you're good to go man... I don't know if the dealer will charge you for them to inspect the bracket, but look into the Race Roots bracket for reinforcement.
|
i'd get the bracket anyway. recently I helped someone install a clutch pedal bracket even though they weren't having squeaking or play in the pedal but when we got the pedal off we clearly saw the metal separated in such a way that you would never have been able to see with it still bolted to the car.
i'm not going to endorse anyone but you can either buy a bracket or get it reinforced via welding. |
Welding it will work too if you could find someone who's very good and would do it for a good price.
|
look on ebay, my clutch pedal assembly broke on mine.... I found a good one on ebay. However I also done some reinforced welding on mine to make mine stronger. This kit works very well. And mazda knew about this problem when i called them... Their stock assembly is very poorly designed

Mazda was going to charge me $250.00 to replace mine so I bought that kit and done my own welding.

You know there is an 8 year or 100,000 Mile Warranty (NA Only) on these Clutch Pedals?
|
Amazing
So it was about 14 months (August 2010) and 18,000 miles ago that my clutch bracket snapped, and I already have another breakage. Metal ripped, rivet pulled out. Dealer claimed to have never heard of that happening. Funny that the had the part in stock...
Anyone else had one go that quick? btw; What a piece of $hit that part really is. |
Quick question, my clutch pedal broke last month and Mazda replaced it free of charge. I wanted to know if the newer one is also prone to breaking, is it the same one or is it an improved one?
Reason why I ask is because I want to know if I should still get the reinforcement kit AFTER Mazda has already replaced the broken bracket. |
It's basically the same one, and will eventually break. They supposedly updated it, but the update hasn't proven to be any better.
If you want a solid pedal, either the bracket from RR or the BHR assembly are the best bets. The bracket from RR requires drilling and will void the warranty on the pedal. The BHR assembly is an entirely new assembly/pedal, but won't break. Your call on which you go with. |
Just interested to know what is your Clutch like?....have you ever changed it and or flywheel?
Strange how some get 160K out of them.. |
I suspect some of us are simply more gentle with things. I still have my original sun visors after 5 1/2 years. No problems.
|
Clutch pedal just broke this morning on way to work. Can barely get trans into gear as the pedal still BARELY works.
Ordered a raceroots bracket but should I try to get mazda to replace the unit first? but don't want to bring the car in with turbo and void warranties. Does bringing them the broken clutch assembly to replace work? |
Does bringing them the broken clutch assembly to replace work? I did that once with a fan belt that failed on a car under warranty. No idea, though, if the dealer actually handled it as a warranty claim, or just gave me the new one to get rid of me. ;) Ken |

For what it's worth, mine snapped 50,000 miles ago. I had the guys at the company I work for weld it up and I also installed the "Mazsport" (at the time) brace on as well. It has been flawless ever since. I'm about 112K now. The extra support of the now "RaceRoots" bracket was a good move. I never got a warranty replacement.

The recalled pedal is completely the same if not worst... my pedal broke again after i had it replaced by mazda... Problem i am having is i am over 100k and i alrdy had it replaced :(... Hopfully they arent ass holes and give me a new pedal...
|
Buy a new one at the dealer and follow the required info on page 3 in the letter bellow.
http://www.gerhardstein.net/picturestokeep/RX8SSP82.PDF Otherwise, weld it and buy the RaceRoots bracket. |
do what i did and weld it. no need to spend $ on a bracket. it takes less than 30 minutes to remove weld and install. rock solid
