Is there a particular number we should call?

I received the letter in the mail about this. But as I recall, it's a reimbursement only if your clutch has snapped, right? So I can't get reimbursed for the reinforcement bracket which I purchased?

Just happened to me on my 04 at 95 0000 KM and replaced under SSP 82. So Canadians are covered as well.

did your clutch pedal actually break?
If so, you need to inform Mazda of the defective part, show proof from that the problem was verified, fixed, show the part number, and the cost associated with the repair.
you then need to send all of that to Mazda for them to process your claim.

Why would Mazda "mail you when the warranty comes out"?
how would they POSSIBLY know whose pedal broke and whose didn't?

who fixed it?
Mazda dealership?
Keep in mind that Mazda dealerships are independently owned so the information is not always easily accessed by MNAO

Don't take this the wrong way but it doesn't matter what your dad said, if you want a reimbursement then you need to follow the directions.
Since you do not have the letter, call MNAO, explain that you did not receive the letter and they can send it to you.

Once you have it, follow the instructions.
end of discussion.

When mine broke it damaged the master cylinder. Total bill; $741.96. Was done at the dealership. Submitted all documentation to Mazda.
The check I received from them today in the mail?

$184.71

I just don't get it. That's not even enough for the clutch bracket plus labor.
The dealership has already screwed me over and now the national company itself.

I'm done with them.

If your car is within 8 years or under 100,000 miles. I had 135,000 miles on my car when the bracket broke. I then bought the bracket from the dealer and installed it myself. But, I have yet to file the form for the refund. Just make sure you keep the receipt.

That's the dealership price for only the bracket

funny, when my clutch pedal broke (and my car was out of warranty @ 126k miles), it cost all of $209 plus tax to get it fixed at the local Mazda dealership. the part was roughly $110 for the clutch pedal assembly, $12 for overnight shipping, and $90 for labor. and now, the car shifts better than ever. used to get some crappy grinding in 2nd gear, now is nearly non existent.

Hmm, I thinking, can I consider this as a safety issue? I mean Im lucky the thing broke when Im not even driving(park!)

but what if it snap off when Im doing highway 55 mph ? its not going to be funny.

Dude,

That sucks. Let us know if they take care of it or charge you for it.

One question though, you implied that if the clutch pedal breaks during an emergency braking incident on the highway something bad would happen. Could you explain that to us? Because, I just can't imagine what difference it would make. You can move the gear shift out of gear without pressing the clutch.

Also, if you ever need to drive a car with no clutch and you have to get through stop lights and stop signs and such, just turn the car off, put it in gear and when the light changes, start the car. The starter will move the car and start the engine at the same time. Then you can match rev's to shift. This is obviously hard on the starter and ring gear but at least it gives you an option.

I know this because I used to have a 1974 Ford Capri that was prone to having its gearshift break off. There's nothing quite like grabbing second and pulling the gearshift stalk out of the tunnel.

Good luck.

My clutch pedal bracket broke several months ago and it cost me about $350. I had to pay that upfront, bc Mazda hadn't officially published the service bulletin on it (they ended up publishing it literally a week later haha). I had to wait about 2 months to get reimbursed, but they did reimburse me 100% of the cost. If your receipt shows $740 worth of charges, they should've refunded you that whole amount since the faulty bracket caused other parts to fail. I'd keep fighting if i were you.

I know you can pull the gear out, but imagine this :

Driving 70 mph on a 3 lane highway, you're in middle lane, as you trying to upshift, you found out the bracket "doesn't work" and you can't put it in any gear without slapping it the gear into it (might break tranny), your car starts slowing down, but the rest of the traffic remains the same and you are not having enough time to "move to the right" , then the car will be stuck in the middle of the highway and you can't really go anywhere cuz all the cars around you just zooooooom by.

Funny you mentioned it, NYCGPS. Five weeks after my bracket broke and after I replaced it, my clutch release bearing started making the un-lubed-mouse-wheel-noise. On the third week, I took the RX-8 for a drive and the worst noise I've ever heard happened, and it's the noise of broken metal and it's pieces running loose inside the transmission. The bearing finally broke! I was 10 miles away from home in Los Angeles traffic and 115 miles away from my mechanic.

Initially, I was in the second gear when it happened. Afraid to stop, I left it in gear and drove on the street between 5-20 mph hoping for all the street lights to stay on green. When I finally hit a red light, I quickly moved the shifter and got out of gear then stopped. I thought that was the end for me and had to face the inevitable: press the hazards and call for a tow truck . Instead , I took the risk of driving my car out of Hollywood and to the mechanic by forcing my shifter into the first gear to drive the car out of the street.

Once in motion and out of the traffic, I up shifted by means of "mashing-gears" on it's first 15 miles in the freeway: 0-15 in first gear, raise the RMP past 5,500 and shifted to second; 25-45 in second gear, raise the RMP again and shift into third; et cetera, until I was comfortably in sixth and drove it for at least 100 miles. Anyway, long story short... And not recommended at all, it is possible to move out of the gear and into another while the car is in motion... Without the use of the clutch.

Quick question on this... Does any creaking whatsoever indicate that the bracket may be about to break, or is it usually a certain amount of creaking?... Mine makes some when I let the push in or let out the clutch slowly (probably a little creak about every inch it moves). When I do it quick I don't really have much creaking though. I just recently noticed it since I normally have the radio up. Would have just assumed that its normal for an 8 year old pedal to creak some, but since I know a good many have been snapping lately I wanted to check...

'lateralus', you'll need to look under your dash and visually inspect the bracket itself. Squeaking could only be from the spring loosing lubrication. Nevertheless, the picture below is the broken bracket that 'DarkBrew' uploaded a couple pages back in this thread. The top left section of the bracket is where the break will likely occur.

Yeah def inspect the bracket. I would take it to the dealer too asap. Theyre supposed to replace the whole assembly within the extended powertrain warranty program if customers complain about clutch pedal issues. Its only a matter of time before it goes.
