FL clutch gone!!,weird Problem

Hey guys,

my clutch went out on me yesterday. It had been slipping like crazy for A whole month; but i didn't have the cash to replace it. i managed to get some cash from my savings and will be purchasing a new clutch.

the clutch pedal was vibrating horribly when i press it, also you can hear this loud chirping and the car kinda bogs if i don't give it enough gas.

that was yesterday, today i had to move my car to a more appropriate spot; since she will be parked for a bit. i go to turn her on and she seemed like she wanted to flood again.it took me quite a few cranks to turn the car on, along with the symptoms above ^^. that would have been the 4th time she floods.

i know that the clutch engages the starter and without it pressed you cant start the car, but can all this really be the cause of the clutch (Throw out bearing)?

also im probably buying a NAPA clutch for $250 New. has anyone used a NAPA clutch?, it seems that the guys over at the subbie forums seriously despise this clutch.

the safety switch has nothing to do with the actual clutch assembly, its a switch on the pedal, so even if you just by pass the switch you can start without touching the clutch.
the vibration can be due to worn clutch being out of balance.

Check with BHR and Mazmart for some clutch prices, I wouldn't trust an autopart's store clutch.

That being said, the no-start without the clutch pressed is simply a switch that closes a circuit flipping a relay that allows power to the starter. You can bypass the switch and start with the clutch still engaged. It is nothing mechanical.

Your issues sound like one of the following is occurring as well, in addition to your clutch problem:
- Compression loss
- Coils failing
- Wires failing
- Plugs failing

Just the hard start adds starter and battery to the list, but considering you have low RPM near-stalling symptoms, it is more like one of the above.

Well the batt and the plugs, wires, coils were replaced 6k miles ago, I also did a compression test and she was borderline normal. I also seafomed it, she didn't stall but it seems to me that something must have happened. I have never had a problem till the clutch started crapping out on me.

I'm thinking of just saving a bit more cash and go with an ACT HDMM clutch. It's just a few bucks more

If the clutch has been slipping for a month and you continued to drive with it, now you hear grinding noises, its likely the clutch disc has been worn down to the rivets and its grinding against the flywheel.
Better add flywheel to you list of items to purchase and if possible, let the car sit where its at until you can get it replaced.

I had a local guy who did the same thing.
Instead of waiting for me to replace the clutch, he went ahead and drove it.
He managed to wreck it so much, the gear ring around the flywheel separated and prevented him from starting the car.
Not saying this is your reason for having starting issues, but its something to consider.

I wouldn't doubt it if i did, i will add the flywheel to my list just in case. i really hated driving the 8 with a slipping clutch. but it was my only means of conveyance. i guess im paying a hefty price for it

i recorded a vid of the sound, that grinding noise you hear at the end is the sound it makes when i step on the clutch, oh! and it was the battery's fault that she didn't want to start.

lol if notice my speedometer, my mileage reads "88666" kinda becoming superstitious now

I would not buy a napa clutch wat so ever i had the same problem last month. i was low on funds do to the fact i was still going to college and paying housing. but i saved up and bought a sr motorsports stage 2 clutch and the light flywheel. i am very happy i made that investment and love the way the car drives. So Do not go cheap cuz u get wat you pay for. and since u let the clutch go so long u might have to buy a new flywheel anyways so might as wheel upgrade it
