Check Engine Light came on briefly - misfiring?
Hi guys.
You might recall me from a few weeks ago asking questions about the dealership quote (coils, plugs, starters). Well, the coils and plugs were fixed and all, but I still feel a bit of vibration. That's beside the point.
Today, as I was driving out of town, I quickly tried to pass some cars and revved the car and it went to 95mph before not going faster anymore. I remember trying to go faster but it was capped. Then, the check engine light flashed a couple of times until I got down to 85mph and then it went away. So far, nothing seems wrong with it, but it's a bit alarming. I read that it's quite possibly an engine misfire, which pisses me off because I spent a lot of money having the coils and plugs changed. The engine mounts were also changed.
Can anyone give me any insight?

Yes, a flashing CEL is always a misfire.

Because you seem to also be having some higher level power loss, then likely your cat is becoming clogged, having started when your ignition failed. Yes, that can cause a misfire.

- Misfires are shown by a blinking check engine light (CEL), and are usually caused by a failing coil, failing plug wire, and/or failing spark plug. They can also be caused by cat failure, engine failure, vacuum leaks, fouled e-shaft sensor, dirty MAF, missing intake screens, aftermarket intake, failing intake valve actuators and a few other items.
