CEL problem ID'd...stuck shutter valve

Dropped the car off Tuesday got it back yesterday. CEL and stumbling problem ID'd a result of a stuck shuttle valve. Fix was pulling hte head, decarbonizing the intake , unsticking the valve.
Car seems to run better; had question but didn't bother asking the service guy:

--how does this amount of carbon get into the intake and will this be a continueing problem? Swoopes--didn't you have this problem?

Is it an automatic?
The carbon is usually a result of insufficient time spent near redline!

Damn - I'm getting nervous about this intake manifold. What brand of gas and oil do you burn?

no i did not. but i did put up some photos of that valve after 55k miles...

what causes the problem is not driving the car hard enough.. if you drive it easy all the time that valve never opens, and never gets cleaned..

The valve opens at

roughly 3800 rpm--right? I know I shift usually around 6-7K and run 3500-4000 rpm on the highway. I may have to talk to the wife..

That's about the same mileage I had when I got the SSV CEL on my '04 MT.

I'm worried again because now I have 62kmi and it's out of warranty.

Swoope is right.

thats the *pain in the **** part about this engine.

Its expensive to fix because in order to fix this problem they have to *drop* your engine down, basically open everything up to replace the stuff.

Labor alone will kill you.

I had CEL about it b4, and the car jerks starting around 6K ~ 7.5 K. What I did was I went for those Fuel system cleaner, put it in, run the crap outa my car, like 6 K go up to 9 K , slow down back to 6K go up again, and again and again ... people on the road probably thought that Im crazy or something ...

for maybe 2-3 tanks, no more problems since. and it happened to me couple thousand miles ago, Im 28K miles now.

Mine is actually at the dealership now for the intake. The funny thing is they replaced the whole intake system but still the same problem. Mazda has my car now for about 1.5 months.

the hell

most of the dealerships are loaded with dumbasses. its just sad that some of us here actually know more than Mazda *trained* tech ....

Tell them to just replace the engine, cuz its the valve that got stuck, replacing the intake manifold another 10000 times wont help the problem
