CEL but no code

60k miles on my 04 GT. Wife went to drive it this morning and (her exact words from the text)..."It was driving fine til I got to the light at the end of the road, then I went to take off and it didn't move fast like it usually does so I saw the CEL come on and then I tried to go faster and it barely sped up so I tried to floor it and it did nothign at all..."

I drove it later this morning and it drove fine so I went to Auto Zone and got the CEL checked out...nothing, no code at all. Any ideas?

Also, the temp was about 30 degrees this morning if that has anything to do with it, she usually goes out and starts it and lets it warm up a bit but she didn't this morning.

if the CEL was just flashing, then it was misfiring

but if the CEL is on steady, there has to be a code associated with it unless the guys at autozone accidentally cleared it while looking it up

It wasn't flashing, it came on solid and has stayed on...I have never had a problem with the guys at the local Auto Zone, is there another way to check it or would I just have to take it to another auto zone/advance auto?

you have a leading coil failing. you might as well buy all for and change them all the same time. if you havent recently you might want to get new plugs and wires as well.

Check with Autozone to see if the reader they used was OBDii AND CAN compatible. it has to be both.

Got a chance to take it to Mazda today to find out the OMP needs replacing, the front O2 sensor needs replacing, it needs new front pads (I knew already), and they wanted to remove the intake and clean the lines and jets...I read a thread about a guy who had pretty much the exact same problem as mine but he never posted what he did to fix it so I'm looking at getting a new/used OMP...I'll post the prices for each thing so you can laugh at them.

O2 senor - $502.87
OMP - $1587.84
Clean intake and jets - $495.00
Replace front pads - $224.60

So I have a few questions...any DIY's on OMP's?, obviously front O2 shouldn't be that hard to replace along with pads (I have mechanic knowledge along with my ex-mechanic father), and is their "clean intake and jets" essentially just us seafoaming the intake and injectors?

EDIT: I keep reading that if the pump is failing/failed then the car goes into limp mode and the car will only go to 3k rpm's...I have been driving the car for a week since this happened and it never once stayed at 3k while i drove it. This is the thread that I read and the guy had the same issue. So is my best bet twisting the pump or not messing with it since the CEL is gone and the car is running fine?

yea thats right the oil metering pump goes bad its throws the car into limp mode to save the engine. and reds lines at 3k and only goes about 25mph. The part for me was about 1,300 with labor. the CEL will stay on and when you go to put a scanner on it it will come up as no code because your using a generic scanner. mazda and one other manufacture use omp and no one else so the generic scanner does not recognize the code you have to have the mazda dealer scanner to clear it or unplug the battery but it will still be stored

The car will also go into limp mode if you try and rev it too hard if it is cold...basically the thing will limit throttle openning until the temp gets up. If it was cold and she didn't warm it up that can be an issue

The OMP...I would wonder if that is really an issue....often they can be reset as well...For the amount of money they are charging you for it you sure could try and reset it first

Unless you have a stuck intake valve ( that will throw a code) the intake should be fine..if you want to clean it...seafoam it.....just suck the seafoam in to the brake booster instead of the lower intake ports.....or if you know what you are doing you can mist a quart of water into the throttle body on a fully warmed up car and steam clean the engine

The O2 sensor is about 1/2 that if you buy it from Mazmart...and you could get someone to happilly put that in for about $50

Brakes...Pads are $80 -150 max for most street pads..and take about 20 min a side if you are doing it for the first time

Mazda cleared it so I don't have a problem with it anymore...so should I be worried about changing it or not worry about it?

MOP? If it is not a problem it is good

I would suspect they were bored and looking for a way to keep themselves busy

I would Seafoam it a bit...let it sit overnight...and warm it up good the next day...and then drive the crap out of it for a while

My car alays runs really great for a few weeks after a track day

if it happens again and again yea. but if the car is cold it still revs to about 5 and still has power at take off so that has nothing to do about it. mazda doesnt just randomly rec omp cuz there bored thye dont even pay that much parts makes all the money not the mechanic. if the rec it its because they saw a problem. talk to the advisor and ask to talk to the mechanic about it and y he rec it

I was hella stressed at the dealer and I found an o2 online from Finishline Performance for 120 so that's covered...just gotta figure out where to get pads from cause advanced Auto has some for 50 bucks but I was lookin to find them elsewhere because idk what pads work well with the 8 for stock replacements.

the best pads to get are the OEM pads. Check around for those. Also, check the FS section in your area! I usually find what I'm looking for in the FS section

Im lookin at getting the hawk ceramics since they have good reviews on here and they have a lifetime warranty.

I have no idea what world pac is so I would assume I don't know anyone who has an account, lol.

yea hawk is good i think tire rack sells them for a good price i may be wrong havnt done research. but the lifetime warranty is bs. its only if something goes wrong with the pad such as if it cracks. which never happens. but just be ready to clean ur rims everyday

If you need new coils, pony up and get Black Halo Racing's new coil kit. Little more pricey than OEM, but gigawatts more spark and more reliability.
