Cat issues?

Hey guys,

My RX8 was misfiring the other day so I replaced the coils, plugs and leads fixed the misfire issue, starts up all smooth and normal again, however I think the CAT may have been killed when the car had the old parts in it. The reason I think the Cat is having issues is this morning when I was driving the car limited itself to 6k revs and from what I understand dodgy ignition systems can cause unburnt fuel to enter the cat?

Does this sound about right? Or has anyone experienced the RX8 limiting it's rev's for other reasons?

Assuming it is the Cat which has gone does anyone have any after market suggestions for a new one?

Thanks and Kind Regards,

Chris

Is the Check Engine Light on?

And what do you exactly mean by "the car limited itself to 6k revs"? Is it sudden, as if the ECU is cutting out the ignition... Or does it feel as if the engine doesn't have the power to climb any higher?

No there are no lights which have lit up on the dash.

Sorry i realize I wasn't very clear, it happily sat at 6k revs however my foot was on the floor and it would not budge any higher, I let it drop back down to 3k revs and put my foot on the floor again it took longer than it usually would to reach 6k there is definitely a loss of power / acceleration there and then once it did reach 6k it just sat there again refusing to rev any higher.

Thank & Regards,

Chris

More details of your car would be helpful too... Year, mileage, any mods, etc.

But yeah, that could very well be a clogged catalytic converter. You could disconnect one side of it and take a peek to see what the innards look like. If you aren't familiar with how it should look, a quick Google search will present plenty of images.

Thank you for your reply

The car is a 231 Model, 05 plate and is currently on 30k.

I will have a look at the weekend see if I can see anything in there.

Thanks again.
