Car shut down after pressing Start Button
Hi all,
After quite some time being a passive member, I finally make this first post
This morning, I accidentally pressed the Start Button after inserting the Ignition Key but before switching it to on. All the indicator lights flashed one time, then off after a short "electricity short circuit" sound.
I was stunned
My car was shut down. It was totally dead without any sign of life. Even the central lock and hazzard were dead.
A friend suggested two possibilities: an electricity short due to my previous mis-installed audio system or an anti-theft security feature.
He suggested me to check the Main Circuit Breaker located at the Battery.
I found the Circuit Breaker, it looks okay to me. I took it off to confirm by looking at it closer and clearer under the light. It is definitely nothing's wrong with the Circuit Breaker.
As soon as I replaced the Circuit Breaker back in place. I heard a "pulse". I got a heartbeat. excitedly I got into the car, I saw all indicator lights were on.
I switched and ignite the car using the key (I was still reluctant to press the Start Button), the engine run normally.
I though this was an anti-theft feature from Mazda.
However, when I looked carefully, the DSC indicator is blinking, even after I restart the car again and again.
An Engineer will come to my place with a computer to scan the system.
However, I am so curious on what has happened and a bit worried.
Does anybody know what happened?
Just a bit information about my car:
I installed sound proof mats inside the car. To do this All the seats and door panels were removed and replaced.
The installer did not do a good job. For two years I have to live with:
- Malfunction Airbag systems
- Malfunction Driver's seat belt
- Malfunction Audio controller at the wheel
Until, I found a car shop to fix them recently.
Any advice, tips and feedback will be appreciated.
Thanks much

Dear MazdaManiac,
Thank you for your prompt response
The DCS light has been reset by the Engineer.
The Start Button is factory pre-installed. There is still possibility that it is incorrectly wired.
I will ask the Engineer to have it checked.
Thank you for your valuable input

yeah, i think some 06s (depending on your part of the world) have the option for a start button.
BTW, you don't need an engineer to reset the computer to get rid of the CEL. It just involves disconnecting/reconnecting the battery.

Mine is Japanese version, it comes with sunroof, leather seat, HID headlight, fog light as well as a japanese manual
Luckily the manual has excellent illustration. I can grasp what it means by merely observing the illustration )
Anyway, thank you for all of your input. My car is back to normal now.
Still not sure why my car died though.
I just have to remember not to press the Start Button accidentally.
cheers )

Just courious, What did the engineer think the problem was?
So the start button was not suppose to work without out the ignition at "ON"? or is it completely keyless like what Toyota and Nissan now has? I don't know how it works in RX-8 since NA don't come with Start button option... even though Miata does
