Powertrain Control Module Recall

I searched and found a few things relating to this but none in particular, perhaps someone can re-direct me if this has been asked.

I received a letter in the mail today for a Powertain Control Module recall (PCM). A few lines after that the dealership suggests I come in and have it fixed and then they can offer me some great deals on new cars and offer me above blue book value for my current RX-8 if I'm not satisfied with the repair work. Is this some kind of trick or is this really a recall i should be concerned with.

not only is this a trick its patently offensive and COMPLETLY against Mazda's wishes. They are very firm with the dealerships about NOT trying to sell from a recall or tack on extra services etc. thi sshould be reported IMMEDIATELY to Mazda. Call 1-800-222-5500 and see if they want you to send them the actual letter. this is reprehensible actions by the dealership.

who are they?

do you have a scanner? id live to have a copy to email to People at Mazda.

There is a recall in effect that is on aslow rollout. meaning some areas get advised before others. there are threads around and the documents are available in a sticky.

I cannot scan the email but I can re-write it, pardon any mistakes as it's quite long and I'm rushing though it. The ONLY reason why I have not taken my car in is because the letter is signed by the sales department, not the service department. So here it is word for word...

Dear Mazda Owner,

Yor are receiving this letter because your vehicle has been included in the Mazda Motor Corporation Powertrain Control Module (PCM) recall program. With a recall such as this, we realize you may be going through a tough time. For many of our customers, a sports car like the RX-8 is a once in a lifetime purchase. It is a unique vehicle that offers performance, appearance, and handling, unlike other cars in it's class. As Mazda continues to improve your ownership experience through this recall; we realize that you may be considering your options. We are a dealership that wants to give you options.

We Certainly hope the recall program will alleviae any issues with the performance of your vehicle and that you will continue to enjoy the "ZOOM-ZOOM" experience that you RX-8 has already brought you. If, however, you find yourself at a point in the ownership of your vehicle where you may be considering something new; you can certainly allow us to evaluate your vehcile for trade.

Mazda continues to engineer "THE SOUL OF A SPORTS CAR" in every vehicle they make. The introduction of the new CX-7, for example, offers all season performance with available All-Wheel Drive, a spirited 244-hp direct injection turbocharged engine, and banishes bland styling with its breakthrough design.

We hope that your recall process is easy and efficient. We also want you to know that we are a dealership that cares about its customers. if you wish to explore your options we have arranged a special program that allows us to go above and beyond book value for trade ins, and permits us to give special pricing on new vehicles for loyal customers. If you wish to explore your options, please contact me at your convenience.

Best regards,

XXXX XXXXXX

dude they are talking about the current recall 4206f which deals with failing engiens and cats etc. its just that the sales departments never bother to understand whats going on so it gets turned into "pcm recall" in the letter
