I still love my rx8 GT. I have not had any problems with the engine since I read on here how good it is to rev these engines. I rev it to 9000-10000 RPM's everyday now while in 1st or 2nd gear. I drive it everyday and race it, and I havent noticed any problems. So just how badley does it need an engine replace? It doesnt seem like it really needs one at this point, so hopefully I am good until I can save some money. I dont have enough to go update all my engine parts either to see if it helped. Bladecutter, how much do you think it would cost to update all the ignition parts on my engine? Am I looking at $300-$500 or up towards $1,000?
How can you rev it up to 10000rpms?
Where do you race it?
Don't waste money 'till you get a proper diagnosis. Save money for the new engine first.

Well you might just double check both trailing coils and make sure that one of them isn't failing as this could result in a similar condition where the engine might otherwise still idle and start in spite of low compression

I don't know where you get your logic but redline the car once a day helps reduce carbon build-up but driving like an idiot "racing" on the streets redlining the **** out of it at every stop light is going to end up causing premature wear of your apex seals. Heat kills rotaries.
Faulty ignition parts actually affects compression and I can vouch for this.
I bought my 8 a few years ago with a "bad engine." I replaced all the plugs, wires, coils and had the engine tested. It not only passed but I managed to double the mileage out of it since I purchased it. I had the engine replaced eventually at 82,210 miles but it barely failed the test (1 before warranty expired).
Also, regarding the compression readings, where are the actual numbers? What RPM were they tested at?

At this point I would do a home compression test before spending more money you don't have on parts that "might" fix the problem.

I don't see what the issue is. Dealer says its a **** engine, he is saying that he has issues holding idle when warm...
He should be saving money for a new engine not spending more to get a rotary compression tester.

So, Jared, I’m curious, did you do as the guy suggested and replace the items and run the Fuel cleaner through it and change the oil? Or just rev’ed It and kept driving it? Have had mine for 4 months and am having the same problem.
Sounds like you need a compression test, potentially a new engine. These are the signs.
