CAI engine light and Power Loss

Hi,

So the wife and I just bought this wonderful 2009 RX8 R3 and were loving every minute of it. Story goes I go on a fishing trip for the weekend and when I'm gone we have the most rain we have had in years. Bad news goes that a Lake forms on our Street and the wife thinks she can make it through (she is use to driving a suv more than a sports Machine). Sucks a tone of water into the factory CAI and destroys the engine (When I say destroys the whole housing was cracked into 7 Pieces). Insurance covers the new engine and most parts that got water damage, but didn't replace the Cat converter. At this time I figured why not place a AEM CAI on the car since it’s in pieces anyway and I have heard good things about the CAI. I have gotten the Car back from the Dealer the CEL is on which I have tried the resets that have been posted on the site. The light keeps coming back on. On the same note the car will start to Lug at 4000 rpm's or higher if I don't punch the gas pedal all the way to the floor. It's almost like it's not getting enough Gas or something. I am going to take it back to dealer for more checks but I'm just curious if anyone on here has any ideas as to what it could be. I'm wondering if the dealer is just going to say that it's because of the CAI.

Any thoughts,

thanks for your time.

Stewart

1) Aftermarket intakes on the RX-8 are for vanity purposes only.
2) Your MAF sensor is probably toast but having the specific CEL code would be helpful.
3) Even if your MAF sensor was ruined by the previous excursion in The Deep, most dealers will blame the AEM intake for the damage.

You do know that this is a series 1 thread. Not a series 2.

Jdenman03 - What is the difference between a Series 1 tread and A series 2, I'm new to this and didn't know there was a difference.

Charles R. Hill - Thanks for the tips, I will take it to the dealer and see what they have to say about this. I will try to get them to give me the Exact CEL code. Thanks!

Series 2 is 2008 and newer.

Don't buy a AEM intake. It will only make your car worse as the air intake is at the bottom of the car.

Go Racing Beat.

So did you get the Cat fixed? That seems like the most obvious source of a CEL from what you've described. Although it could also be whole host of other issues if your wife managed to suck water into the engine.

Water is a normal by product of combustion, in fact some people even inject it into the intake mixture to help with cooling. Now with that being said exactly how deep of water, and how much water did she end up inhaling into the engine.
