burning rubber smell went away turning off ac
So I had a burning rubber smell last night with the ac running. I looked under the car and couldn't see anything burning or heating up on the exhaust. Then I looked under the hood and I noticed what I think is the ac compressor (the pulley closest to the driver side) coming on and off in rapid succession. So I turned off the A/C and the smell went away. So my question's are:
Am I correct that it was the ac compressor cycling on and off?
Why was the car smelling like burnt rubber?
Also my wife was driving so we were going pretty pedestrian on country roads. She is very slow with the clutch so there were no burnouts or any hard driving.

compressor pulley might be hanging up. the burnt smell is probably the belt. happened to me
