Burning Oil?

Today I started to smell what seemed like oil burning from the engine compartment, and from the air vents inside the car. I thought at first it
was an old van in front of me, but the smell remained long after I passed
it.

I checked to make sure that there was no oil leaking from around the
oil filter, and I have not seen any oil dripping...

Anyone else experience this?

Did a search for this, and read through a number of "burning smell", "oily burning smell" threads, and it seemed to me that most were referring to either a rubbery, or clutch/brake smell.

I have not had this before, and it just started the other day. I thought I had read a post previously about someone having a leak in their MOP, but I couldn't find the thread. I guess I am going back to the damn dealer.

This morning on the way to work, I noticed it again after I got off the freeway. The smell is pretty strong. I popped the hood as soon as I got to work, and I could smell it but no smoke or anything like that. I'm worried, because if they take my car for a major repair...they are super slow, and they always saddle me with some piece of crap car.

If there is a new engine in my 8's future, then with all of the other problems I have had, albeit most of them minor, I am going to ask if I can switch up to a MS 6.

I think I found the source of my oil leak....heat melting lines from MOP? There are are several translucent plastic lines and one of them is very greasy....I wiped if of last night, and it's greasy again today.

I have the same smell, where do I find these lines and is it a serious problem if they are melting? Don't really know what MOP stands for.
