Brake Squeal TSB Rev. 2

Well, the brakes have been squealing since I had the first TSB performed 8000 miles ago. Now I'm considering bringing it in to have the the April 2006 revision of the brake squeal TSB done. I've searched but couldn't find any comments from people who have had this done.

Has anyone here had any luck (bad luck?) with the new TSB?

thanks

Is there a time/mileage requirement associated with the TSB? My car is at the dealer right now and the service manager just called to say that the new pads wouldn't be covered under warantee because I hadn't gotten it taken care of within 12 months / XXK miles (forgot how many he said). Anyway he said that he had the new pads and could put them on, but he would have to resurface the rotors "I can't do one without the other" (totally unneccessary from my POV) and the procedure would cost 200 bucks. Am I being duped? If Mazda won't pay for the pads and installation then I'll get some aftermarket pads and install them myself.

I actually heard that there was no mileage limit. Look for the TSB and see if it has one on it.

Well I didn't know about a mileage limit either. The TSB doesn't state one in any case. Seeing as how Mazda took this long to find a solution to squeaky brakes, there should not be a mileage restriction (except on any rotor work). It's not our fault the fix came out in April 2006 for a car that was built in the fall of 2003. I had the original brake TSB performed at 4k miles and I currently have 13K. I really hope they don't give me any grief.

After complaining to my dealership EVERY time I go in about my brakes, I finally just took in the TSB and the Service Manager said, "oh, that . Yeah, we have those lying around but we'll need to duplicate the problem"

HAHA, an hour later she called saying they'd just ordered the parts for me. I'll let you know how it goes when I get it done next week.

Had mine done three weeks ago. No squealing to date and a LOT less brake pad dust! Almost 15K when done. No hassle from dealer. BTW, front pads only. That's all it took to get rid of the squealing. Mechanic said rears still had 75% of pad. Sounds like a good deal to me!!

My 8 has 24k miles on it, and i just had this TSB done. I had the older TSB done at the end of last year sometime (maybe?), and about a month ago they started squealing again. I mentioned it to the dealer durring an oil change last week, and they did the TSB for me no questions asked. Squeak is gone. I haven't noticed any other differences. I can't verify they less brake dust comment by glassetcher (haven't driven it enough yet). Overall I'm happy with it so far! I hope they keep giving me free brakes!

I had the TSB (april) for the brakes done after I bought my 04 Rx-8 with 31k miles on it. I brought the car in to fix my a/c and I mentioned how the brakes were squealing alot (I had my windows up when I test drove it since it was cold as hell that day grr). So I doubt there is any milage limit on it unless you have driven it over the warrenty spec of 50k (right?). Try to find a site or if someone has a copy of the TSB email it to you and see if they have any actual limits written down there. To me it just sounds shady with what the guy told you.

Sice the TSB is dated April 2006, it would be very hard to get a 2004 car serviced within the 12 months!!!...sounds a little fishy to me

do you think anyone who purchased prior to April '05 might be screwed?
the TSB quotes " 2004-2006 RX8"

I have been extremely open with my dissatisfaction with Mazda and the brake squeal issue with my 2005 Shinka. I had the brake pad service performed on Tuesday of this week and I can say that so far so good. I really hope this fixes the issue as I am nearing the 12,000 mile limit to warranty coverage on the brakes.

I have to say that Mazda came through on this one......it took them a while, but I am a happier 8 owner now

For anyone with brake squeal issues......I highly recommend having this service performed.

Over 2 years and 15,000 miles on original pads and has never squeaked once. Search for "bedding" and "brakes".

Hmm, this reminds me...

Time to call the dealership up and see how long it takes them to get my brake pads in. Going on two weeks now...

I believe the first "Brake Squeal" TSB said up to 36K miles. So if you have less then 36K miles they will replace them free, but you pay if you want rotors turned.

i Just printed this "latest" TSB, my car is a 2005 (purchased october of 2005) with 4 miles on the ODO... now im sitting at about 24,400 miles, and I get squealing every now and then, should I expect any BS from the dealer if I take my car in? (its kind of a pain in the *** to have to take off work) but my only other option was looking at buying some Hawk Ceramic pads to stop the damn squealing!

With 24K miles, ive gotten quite a lot of use outta the pads, but with this damn squealing they should replace them with this latest TSB right?

If they give you any bs just tell them that you know a guy in Portland that got his done with almost 41k miles on the odo. I'm just waiting for the brakes and my new brake rotors to come in. It's all getting replaced as per MNAO after the dealer didn't think they would. I picked up my car with 7 miles on the odo in 10/03...
