Broken Cupholder Door/Button?

I noticed my the button that you press down to allow the cupholder door to slide back looked a little crooked today so i pressed on the side that was higher to see if it would level out and sure enough it shot off along with the 2 springs. I noticed one of the legs towards the back of the clip was broken off and it no longer stays in the door.

Also, the whole sliding front part seems to have come off the rails and I can take it COMPLETELY out of the car seperating it from the middle that opens sideways to reveal the storage compartment. I read a few threads on this from 2004 and couldn't find any recent information. Are people still breaking these right and left? Did mazda create a new fix to toughen the whole thing up?

Also did you guys have to wait for the dealer to special order the whole door and also is time consuming for them to replace it? (I.E. do i have to get a loaner and leave the car there or is it a 1 hr wait job?) Any recent information is much appreciated. My car is only 2 months old, it's a late 04 build leftover inventory 05 I bought in May.

Thanks in advance!

mine just broke. it won't stay open. i never touch it, so I'm surprised it broke. chances are they wont have the part in stock and will have to order it. i'd just bring it in, have them order the part, and drive your car until it comes in. no need for a loaner

Seems to be common. Mine broke after about two months of ownership. I actually called ahead of time and told them what was wrong. They said they had several reports from other owners as well. When I went in about a week later they already had the parts to fix it. Haven't had any further problems with it since then. But to be sure, I'm usually pretty careful when opening it.

I think I will just call ahead and tell them to order the parts if they don't have any on hand. How long did it take them to do the labor, did you just wait or did they have to give you a rental?

The thing that worries me is hearing about replacement parts breaking just a few months after they're put in. Seems like mazda really dropped the ball and used some cheap brittle plastics and materials on the interior of this car.

I was in and out in roughly 45 minutes. But I was having an oil change at the same time.

Sounds good, did they just replace the door or the whole center console on yours?

I'm surprised mine still operates. One of my first impressions of the car, was what a flimsy POS mechanism it is. Im sure its easy to replace.

it's pretty easy to fix, check the DIY section.
you can probably heat up the legs and bend them back... that is if you don't want to go to the dealer.

The leg on the back of my button broke off so I couldn't fix it and either way I paid for a warranty so I'm not fixing a thing.

I already took the car in and demanded they replace my whole center console and they did. Also when the new TSB revamped center console comes out I already have my name down for the revision.

I could've swore I saw a TSB for this awhile back but I'll be damned if I can find it. Either that or it's been removed from Rosenthal's site.

yeah it could've been a DIY maybe.

My center console lid was replaced under warranty. The sliders are weak and snap off if any weight is applied. Also when the dealer replaced my parking brake handle (TSB) they broke the rear retaining clip on the shifter cover! The interior really does have some cheap brittle plastic pieces. The rear cup holder cover will also de-rail and jam if one uses it wrong; at least it doesn't break!
Don't get me wrong, I love the car but these sorts of issues are a bit of a surprise.
