Bleeding brakes - rear hubs still spinning?!?!?
Background: I had my RX-8 up on 4 jackstands with all 4 wheels removed for flushing/bleeding brakes last night. I have an HPDE event in a few days, and I wanted fresh fluid. The car is a base model 6spd '04, bone stock, 16K miles.
I verified the car was in neutral, pressed the clutch and started the car. I noticed the speedo was registering 1-3mph. Odd... I hopped out of the car and indeed, the rear hubs were spinning slowly. I grabbed a lug stud to stop them, and it was definitely under some kind of power. Thinking I was crazy, I jumped back in the car and wiggled the shifter. Yep, I'm in neutral. Intensely strange.
My wife assisted me with the bleeding, and that went according to plan, but when she wasn't pumping the brakes, the rear hubs spun slowly the entire time.
The car is fairly new to me (5 months), and this was the first time I've done any kind of work on the car. I'm not new to bleeding brakes. I've done it in my garage and trackside on numerous cars more times than I can count, but I've never seen anything like this.
Does anyone have an explanation?
