I took my 8 to a rotary mechanic because I have trouble with my 2nd and 3rd gears synchronizers. He said I need a whole new transmission(about $1,000). I took it to another one about an hour away he said no, he can replace the synchronizers and it will be cheaper. Who do I believe? Any thoughts? thx

P.S. I installed a couple of years ago a lightweight flywheel and a stage 1 act clutch. If that helps

 

Its probably in the $1000+ range for the amount of labor involved in taking the tranny out of the car.

 

instead of a rotary mechanic why not take it by someone who specializes in TRANSMISSIONS to get a quote?

 

both are right. i've seen mazda swap out transmissions and just replace the syncro's in other cases.
