Ararm system gone NUTS!

I had a really truly strange thing happen today. I stopped, turned off the car and the alarm went off - horns beeping, flashers going. I though I must have hit the keyfob button. I pressed the red button it went off.

Then it happened again. And again. I though I must be going nuts! But it stopped.

So went into a store, came back out, put the key in the ignition and started the car. Immediately the alarm goes off. With the car running the red button won't shut the alarm off. I'm freaking out, so I drive away horn blasting, flashers going. Can't stand it stop a short distance away and pull the horn fuse. OK some relief, the lights are flashing, but no sound....I can deal with that.

So I drive a couple miles, and it all stops. Everthing is normal again...until I get home in my driveway, turn the car off...the lights start flashing again! WTF!

Has this happened to anyone. Only thing I can think of is the keyfob is $ucked?

Have an appointment tomorrow w/the dealer, but would rather save the money I know they'll charge. They already said they'd never heard of such a thing, so they'll spend hours doing stuff that will simply waste my $$$.

Anyone?

why dont you just take the battery out of your remote and see ?

if your car goes back to normal, its your remote,

if it doesn't, its your car.

cuz you know you can start your car with no battery in the remote.

but after your car has started your alarm shouldn't beep at all, even you press and hold the button on your remote.

so I dunno, it sounds bad.

this has happened to me in the last 3 cars I have owned.

If you lock the car and your inside it, then open the door the Alarm goes off.

You have to reset it.

Each car is different.

Try puting the key in the ignition and turn it on. Then open the car door.

I think that's how I rest the RX8. If No do the samething with the car running.

It still has it in memory the car was stolen by NYCAPS.

Still don't work... Try to disconnect the battery for ten minutes. don't forget to pump the brakes to discharge any remaining charge.

It has stopped doing it for the time being. I have no idea what I did to get it to stop, if in fact it was anything I did. I just hope it doesn't return, but it wasn't a good omen being weird like that. The dealer said he'd never heard of it, and the lead (good) rotary tech said he'd not either.

Fingers crossed.

Spin9K,
Did you ever figure out your alarm problem? My 2004 started "false alarming" this year. Usually after rain (which Michigan has been getting plenty of!)

Sound similar?

Here's the story...
Wanted to let my GF (at the time) drive the car so moved the seat up
Drive to dinner
Come out after dinner and the behavior described above.

Pulled fuses so I could drive it.

Unrelated, I was working on my clutch pedal and moved the seat all the way back and after that work I noticed that the problem went away... WTF??
Plugged the fuses back in and all was good??

I have no explanation.

the panic button wont shut it off completely you must unlock the driver side door with an appropriate key or hit the unlock button on your keyfob... ,says the manual, not press the panic button

It looks like the best bet is that the shock sensor may be the problem. I hope to attempt to "turn it down" by the weekend and will report back.
