Smile airbag light

I was driving my rx8 at speed the other day an the airbag light came in the middle of the rev counter, I tried putting it on the computer to reset the Ecu but still no luck is there any way to reset the error as I don't really want to take it to mazda and get charged £80 an hour.

I was at the dealer today to ask about my light -- which is on because I swapped out my cloth seats for leather -- and they said disconnecting the battery and reconnecting will reset it. It didn't work for mine but that's because of the seat swap (I need resequencing or something) but if you're just looking to reset, that may be all you have to do. Worth a shot, easy to try! Good luck

I've tried disconnecting it still no joy its not as bad when I'm on my own but when someone sits in the passengers side it stays on constantly think I'm gonna have to take it to mazda.

Have you tried disconnecting / reconnecting the plugs under BOTH seats?

same thing happend to me. It would be on again / off again for several weeks. Took it to Mazda and there was a shorted wire in one of my seats where the side airbags are. Cost $85 bucks.

There is also rumored to be another connection behind the glove box for the pass. airbag that comes loose. Normally just disconnecting and reconnecting both seat connections takes care of it though.

does it mean your airbags don't work when the dash light is on?

Hi,

Did you manage to take off the airbag on the driver and passenger seat without blowing it? is there an independent sensor inside that airbag? im planning to replace my seat cover, but im a bit worried if i have it replace, the airbag will blow-up.

Or?

it wont be affected since the connectors are not connected and there's no power/sensor connected to it?

if there's any written procedure how to take off those airbags, it will be highly appreciated...

Thanks

Generally, it's a bad idea to work on this car with the battery connected, but especially so when it involves the airbag system.

Definitely disconnect the battery when working on the airbag system. That being said, while I haven't seen an RX-8 schematic specifically, every other system I've worked on requires two sensors to simultaneously sense a crash to activate the airbags. Otherwise, a single sensor malfunction could cause disastrous events.

My light is also on, the code says something about the passenger airbag, the one above the glovebox. I was curious if anyone knew which connector was for the airbag? It's kind of tight under there and I just want to make sure I check out the right one.
