I have an '04 Rx8 and my air conditioning doesn't seem to work. However, if i crank the a/c **** ALL the way down to cold and hold it there, I get nice cold air. As soon as I release it however, back to warm. Any suggestions would be great.

 

There's a vast amount of threads on here directly discussing this issue.
The problem is the electricical circuit behind the **** is faulty.
There is a DIY to go in and fix it yourself on here... Just to a quick search.
As for a quick temporary fix, you can probably quickly cycle the temperature control back and forth from max cold to max hot and try to get it to land on cold when you want cold, and hot when you want hot, then from there just use the fan speed.
That's what I'm currently doing for the fact that I'm experiencing the same issue on my 04' and I've just been putting off busting out the solder pen and fixing it. Living in the chicagoland, I usually need full heat in the morning and full ac on my way home from work.

 

Pull AC controls and solder correct point as detailed in various other threads complaining of the same issue. I had to do it to mine and no problems in about 3 years.

 

My car has been acting the same. Been putting off the fix for sometime by just fiddling with the **** until I got the temp I wanted. Only recently however did it REALLY start to act up on me.

I've searched and cannot find anyone with the same issue. While running the AC, not only does the car have the typical hot/ cold issue, but ONLY the center right vent blows cold air. Every other vent in the car will either blow HOT or room temp. VERY ANNOYING. I am hoping the solder fix + AC reset will solve the issue. I am worried that the door actuator may also be the culprit (unit that opens/closes pathway for cold/ hot air).

Curious to know if anybody has had the same issue and if the solder + reset fixed the problem. Regardless...I'll find out this weekend...

Well I got around to the solder and it fixed the **** issue, but I am still only receiving cold air from the center right vent when running the AC. All other vents were blowing room temp. I was hoping I would nail two birds with one stone here.

Though my problem seems to be the opposite. I am trying to get cold air from ALL vents. I checked the door blend actuator and it is working properly.

Not sure what the problem is...

 

Before my compressor broke I was having the problems with the vents (don't worry I'm not trying to say your compressor will break). But when I had the freon refilled that problem went away.

 

That's odd. I can't understand how refilling would fix that. I'm going to search for an AC diagram, if available. I need to understand how it works.

 

Check the cabin filters also.

 

Got the AC charged. Now its blowing ice cold it was very low on refrigerant. I'm hoping that was the only problem.
