AEM/MS CAI Intake in wet weather
edit: wet weather had nothing to do with my CEL. Unplugged vac line, nothing to see here. Move along.

I've been in situations where the trucks/cars in front of me practically poured tons of water onto my car (and my RB intake + duct), and I've had zero problems.

well, turns out that I was wrong. Threw a cel again, so I took it to the dealer. Turns out that my air temperature sensor isn't plugged into anything. The AEM instructions didn't say anything about what to do with this sensor. Any ideas?

I guess it would be the vfad controller. Mazda dealer lists "air temp sensor not plugged in." I always thought the air temp was monitored by the MAF. The connector is green, and used to plug into the air box.

Just use a zip tie to secure it to somewhere safe. Like to the MAF wires.
Disconnect the VFad sensor and remove it from the car. Not needed except to control the flap in the VFad (part that the stock airbox connects to under the nose cone.
Which is removed when installing most CAI on the 8.

Ugh, so most likely my CEL was caused by the vacuum line that wasn't plugged. After plugging it, I felt and heard a difference from the intake. Man, I wish the guys at the dealership knew what they were talking about. That trip cost me $40 for him to tell me the wrong info. Thanks for all your help man.

It's good to hear that from both of you. I plugged that line yesterday (left the tube connected and just plugged the end of it), and it ended the strange whistling noise I was experiencing before (duh). It's so frustrating living where I do, because neither dealer near me knows about RX-8's. I have one dealer who got on my case, saying revving high is bad for the engine, and the other is plain making **** up. I would call MNAO, but I mean, what can they do? Unless they can make sure an experienced rotary mechanic is employed at one of these places, there's really nothing useful they can do.
If I had to pick the weakest thing about the 8, it's been the dealers. I wish they had rx8club.com garages!
