Is this acceleration normal?

0:16 - 0:26 is my rough 0-60 mph, petal all the way down the whole time.
Did not have tiptronic on, but that'd only be a small difference.. Difficult to do that while filming with my phone anyways.
Nor do I think compressing my engine first would make any difference (throttle while on the brakes [goes to about 3k rpm])

I just want to know if this is roughly the normal acceleration for an 04 4-speed A/T

ps dont mind my Pantera

Okay, i checked it out. What street is that? Is that at Campbell or nearby San Jose area? No cops around?

It looks normal to me. Are you having some issues with your car?

san tomas expressway
and, yes, **** ton would be correct. I'm just throwing this out here because this is the only RX8 I've ever driven, so I wouldnt know if I have low power or not, and I cant just take it apart because this is my only car, and the parents wont let me borrow the truck, cuz it gets the same mpg as my car..

And I put this video up because its like you're driving my car, sort of.. I dont have a traction control button either, So i assume i dont have any integral TCS? cuz from a stop, flooring it.. you get that video.. Not even spinning tires in the rain from a stop.

When I first got the car, the entire rear of the previous tires were worn down all the way and bald.. So my first time ever driving the car, flooring it.. same thing. Did something bad happen while it sat and sat and sat with no engine activity?

Also, my friend says my engine is probably flooded.. But if it was flooded, but it could still start, then it'd burn off all the extra fuel, right? IDK how to explain it.. I just want mine to run smoothly and actually start after its off for 5 minutes

I haven't checked your mod list. did you ever change your plugs/coils? Is cat good/ bad?
I'm pretty sure your cars engine isn't in the greatest shape, considering how long it sat.

flooded engine wouldn't run if it was still flooded! You burn the gas away fairly quickly. However, it would damage your plugs, which would lead to bad coils/ cat/ etc etc...

For an 04, automatic, with a possibly failing engine... that looks right.

mod... list? soz, I only have appearance "mods" haha

and yes, i changed them all around the time when I first got it, all of it except for 1 coil, but its too late to just go back and change that one, whichever one it was..

and i dont know if the cat is good or bad.

and with the flooded engine, thats what I know as well, thats why I dont know why my friend says that... im not sure what to do at this point

Well a manual does 0-60 in about 6 seconds if you beat the hell out of it in a launch, so maybe more like 6.6 or a tad higher without the 8k clutch dump they did in the tests. An auto would be slower, and you have the even slower version of the auto with the 4 speed transmission...

Heres a 6 speed auto, 8-9 seconds to 60 but he increased his rev limiter to 9k for the auto:

Heres a 4 speed auto that hit 60 in about 10 seconds as well:

does the 6 speed make the difference in him getting to 4k rpm in 2-3 seconds compared to my 4 seconds in first gear? his seems/feels a lot stronger

Let me first say that I dont know much at all about transmissions, so if any of this info is wrong please someone correct me.

The gears would be shorter than yours. He *should* only be able to rev up to the same 7k or 7.5k that you can. If you notice when you hit your redline your at 41 mph at 7.5k when he hits 7.5k he is at around 34/35 and hits 41 at 9k because he changed his redline to that.

The 6 speed is faster than the 4 speed for sure.

i believe you are right.. with less gears, mine are longer, so everything is slower, but i thought it'd be just a little bit better.. i guess not..

and I get crappy gas mileage, but that was due to stop and go.

but then I travelled somewhere for 50 miles steadily on the freeway, and it got to about 3/4 tank..

so it seemed not that great, but I will find out soon what mileage i get the whole way to Las Vegas next month.. I'm hoping its not 12.

I'd really like a beater DD in the meantime so i could rebuild my engine myself, see whats going on.. it works, yes.. and theres the saying, "if its not broken, it doesnt need to be fixed", or something like that.. but i'd like it cleaned up a bit
