AC dead for over a year
So before I go ahead with accepting the dealership's diagnosis, I wanted to see if anybody else had some ideas.
Whenever I turn the fans on in the car, I get extremely hot air coming out of the vents. Not the ambient air temperature but hot air. It doesn't matter what I have the temp. **** set to, I get hot air no matter what.
The dealership said it was either the compressor or the condenser (I can't remember which one off the top of my head). Before I spend $400+ (Broke college student) can anybody else come up with any ideas?
Thanks!

Try doing the temp control **** test first, might be a bad temp selector.

Hey bro,
I actually had this same problem...except mine was only hot when the car was either idle or stopped. You should take it to Brake Max. I was trying to charge my system then overcharged it (wasnt my fault)...but now it works much better than before. Things to look for is a loud clicking sound from under the hood...Thats the AC clutch engaging and if that the case then your compressor is working. I think you have just leaked refrigerant over time from your car. You should deff do what the other guy said though and check cheaper things out that could be the problem before dropping that kinda dough. I hope this helps. BTW don't pay 100+ to get it recharged they did mine for 81 but I had refrigerant in my system so yours might be a bit more than that.
