2nd gear problem

2nd gear problem

rx8 2004 96k miles

it grinds when i go from 1st gear to 2nd gear at high rpm....
What should I do???

You have high enough mileage that it could be the clutch as well. Don't jump to conclusions yet.

rplace the fluid. don't spill it. It will stink for a long time.

I replaced the clutch 4 months ago......so i dont think its the clutch

Is it easy to replace the transmission fluid?

Sort of- you just remove the fill and drain plugs, then replace the drain plug and fill it. (Always remove the fill plug first, just in case it is stuck. Then you can still drive the car to a shop to get it fixed. If you remove the drain plug first and the filler plug is stuck then you can't drive the car)

Unfortunately there isn't much clearance under there so you need to put the car up on ramps or a lift, and you will need a gear oil pump to get it filled back up.
