2007 RX-8 starting and ideling problem

I have a 2007 RX-8 with 100,000 miles. It started doing this as soon as we had our first cold spell. Having a hard time starting. Usually takes 3 to 4 seconds cranking. While at normal motor temp it will idle really low and want to stall.

My question is would a bad neutral safety switch have anything to do with this? Any help would be much appreciated.

Consider changing your plugs, wires, and coils if you haven't in the last 30,000 miles; do you still have the original OEM starter? The neutral safety switch wouldn't have much to do with your starting problem but might give off a CEL.

I had the battery checked yesterday and it had a 50% charge. It almost sounds like an air issue. At idle the motor will drop from 800 rpm to 400rpm constantly. Is there a mass air sensor or anything that could cause this? Thanks again for everyone's info. Yes the OEM starter is still on the car.

The MAF sits between the air intake box and the accordion tube. Do you have a CEL on? This may help, try and take time to read this link: STARTING ISSUES! Start here!.

I see that you're new here.
How long (time and miles) have you owned your car?
Have you read the New owners thread yet?

If not, read it, and get caught up with everything you should have done before buying your car.

Chances are, you need ignition components replaced.
Plugs, wires, AND ignition coils.

Read the new owners thread.

BC.
