2006 A/C Issues

Has anyone else had “zone” issues with the A/C systems on their 06` RX-8's or earlier models? A day after driving my 06` vehicle off the dealer lot I noticed that when the A/C is on, the driver side vents blow luke warm air where as the passenger vents blow nice cold air. I've tried cycling all the HVAC settings, performed the A/C Programming steps as outlined here in the forum but to no avail.

The vehicle is going in this week sometime for its final inspection and to have some accessories installed by the dealer. I just wanted to get some feed back from those that may have had this issue so I can point the dealer to a good starting direction.

Thanks everyone.

welcome to the 8.

They all do that.

Go to DYI section and wrap your a/c line. Make sure to use high temp hose wrap.

^^^ The wrap did help in my case...

Here's something else that is useful. I forget who posted it originally.

=========================================
The AC amplifier can be programmed to automatically default to "RECIRC" mode when the following conditions are met:
1. Ambient air temperature is 68 deg. F or higher.
2. HVAC control mode is in "FACE" mode.
3. HVAC temperature is in maximum cool setting.

1. Verify ignition switch is in OFF position.
2. Press and hold the front defrost and air intake selector buttons simultaneously.
3. Turn the ignition key to the "ACC" position for 3 seconds.
(Continue to hold the buttons down from step #2.)
4. Turn the ignition key to the "ON" position for 3 seconds.
(Continue to hold the buttons down from step #3.)
5. Successful programming will be confirmed by the rear defrost indicator light flashing 3 times.

NOTE: If vehicle's battery dies or cables are removed, the programming will not be retained and must be performed again.

It took me two tries before I realized I was holding down the wrong buttons.
(front defrost is on the left, input selector [recirc/no recirc] on the bottom --
I started out holding the *output* selector button).
But when I used the right buttons I did get the 3 flashes on the rear defrost (right side). Not sure how critical the "3 seconds" timings are; I just waited until the normal chimes stopped.

No, they don't all do that. I upgraded from a 05` Sport Package to the 06` Grand Touring Package in which the 05` did not have this problem. Cold air blew out of each vent without incident. I never had to wrap anything on my 05`, so my belief it is something under the dash like a bad actuator.

The vehicle has been dropped off at Mazda this morning, once they figure the problem out I will post what was done to resolve it.

Thanks

Yeah, I had seen this when doing a search for this issue. I tried the procedure but it did not resolve the issue I'm having.

Thanks though.

Fixed

Just got the car back from the dealer and it turns out the freon level was low. It was however, not low enough to activate the pressure switch to prevent the compressor from running. This in turn caused about a 10 degree F difference from passenger side to driver side vents.

A/C is blowing icy cold now.

Hope this helps someone troubleshoot in the future.

Cheers!
