2005 starting to have issues with running condition
Discovered a bad cell and corroded terminals and a filthy engine compartment under the cover. Had those replaced including the battery. It starts right up, but now it wants to shut down whenever I have been driving fairly fast, to a stop. As it dies the coolant and battery dummy light come on. Found my overflow bottle was almost empty. I filled it up with the 50/50 anti-freeze, and it started up, seems to be idling just fine. I noticed that the system is open, in that there is a little tube that goes no-where from the overflow container.. is that correct? And does anyone think that there may be something else in the electrical system that is giving me issues? Maybe something due to the corrosion?
Also one more stupid question,, how do I clean under the hood of my car? I don't want to pay someone to do this for me and I wash my car myself all the time, so if I just knew how to do it exactly I would.
Thanks ya'll - I appreciate any and all the help I can get.

Not that anyone noticed, but I did in fact find the fix for my problem in this forum. It was that because I had replaced the battery I needed to rest the fuel trim. To do this I turned my key on, with the car door open, and pressed on the brake 20 times. The car runs right again.
Replace that little overflow hose with one that is at least 18" longer.
Otherwise, if car ever over heats it will corrode some electrical connectors.
Soap and water by hand is fine. Avoid electrical areas.

You can powerwash the engine bay. Just be careful around electrical connectors. Don't directly spray wires or anything.
No powerwasher? Then just hose down the engine bay with Simple Green or Purple Power and then use a high pressure nozzle on your hose. Again, be careful around electrical connectors. It also helps to take a brush to it and agitate the dirty areas to get the dirt out before hosing it down.
And yes this is a safe method. If you bought your car used from a dealer, your engine bay was probably pressure washed prior to it being on the lot. Do it right and it's perfectly safe and very effective.

Thank you
Thank you for helpful instructions. I did manage to clean under the hood without any problems. I put a thick rag over the alternator and was careful to stand further back so as not to hit anything too forcefully. Actually used armor-all on the engine covers and it looks really great! Jumped back in it and it started right up.
well, maybe u know by now ... u have ur own sig too ... *Sigh*
Have a quick question. Im having problems with my fans kicking on. They both work when ac is engaged. I replaced the thermostat, coolent temp sensor and water pump. When at operating temp fans will not engage. I did a cpu reset a little ago. Will the cpu reset effect the fans?
Thanks
Thanks
