Replaced the Cat O2 Sensor Last Night. Reset the Computer (Battery off for an Hour). 120 Miles to work today - NO CEL.

I am babying it until I get my emissions inspection on Friday as I need 2 - 3 days after resetting the computer so it wont fail the inspection.

I did not get on it hard but after i get my inspection done I will let you know how it is riding. right now just a little rough but needs to relearn.

Inspection

I Can't go to inspection for a few days. They know (DMV/MVC) that your codes have been recently erased so you need to give it a couple of days driving before taking it in. I will definitely post my results as long as the CEL stays away!

In regards to Gas - Yep - Every day I fill the tank. I usually get home just before the low fuel comes on! I only put in 92 or higher! Get at most 20 miles to gallon, but that's because the cruising speed is usually 80+ and I am there in the mix.

Trust me last Summer - gas prices HURT The wallet!

Never

One time they accidentally put in 87 - the car ran like CRAP. Ping noise, rough, I need this car to last and at 175,000 miles the better gas to me will make it last LOL! I plan on another 100K out of this engine! Oil - Good Gas - Maintenance - Should last (Fingers Crossed)

This winter try out mid-grade gas again. You should only need 92 when its hot outside. Below 50 should be fine at 89 or 87 even.

Computer needs couple of days to build trim data plus to perform the Emission test in the gas tank.

175K ... pretty good.

but I think your engine is dying, oh well, no free replacments for you :P

Talking 200,000 Miles

Well -you all -My time has come - I traded in my 2004 RX8 in for a 2010 Dodge Challenger R/T. When I let here go the odometer was at 198,592 miles! .

NO CEL at all!

Original Engine
Original Clutch
All stock!

But I will still be lurking as my Girlfriend has a 2005 AT RX8! LONG STORY LOL!

I want to personally thank everyone who has helped me keep my ride running ! I am a large fan of Forums as I am the President and run a large NJ Motorcycle group and maintain my own forum!

This place rocked!!! Well done to the Administrator and the Moderators!

Stop by my place one day and say hi.

So, as far as we know, this car attained 200,000 miles with only regular maintenance and no pre-mix. It would seem to indicate the early failures are more due to carbon build-up than lubrication issues.

This car would have minimum carbon, due to far fewer cold start cycles and his stated driving habits. And it would appear to suggest that if lubrication was the predominant issue, this is a car that should have lost compression many miles ago.

Curious....

Well, congrates on the high mileage (and the new car).

My daily commute isn't as long as yours (only 209 miles), but I should hit the 200K mark by the end of this year (got 158K now): all highway, daily red-lining, routine maintenance, also still with original engine, clutch, cat, etc. I did replace the original coils at about 103K miles, but that was only because I installed the Mazsport Ignition Solution. Only problem I've had was the over-engineered sun visors LOL --- got my third set before the warranty expired.

My engine, failed test at 48K miles, still worked.

but just because it start and runs does NOT mean its ok.

Only "die hard fans" like me would rather pay 100 something bucks just to "get an idea of" the engine's status.

many many owners will never know their engine has failed.

So I wouldn't be surprised the future owner of his RX8 will have problem.

oh well.

You hit it on the head. The power loss is gradual, many people dyno and only put down 160-170HP and up until that point they thought their cars was running fine. Our cars should come with a compression gauge,

Oh dont get me wrong on the Car - It was on its Death Bed - Engine was Shoot. I had little power and it was a ticking time bomb - Trust me.

I rode this car hard. My commute is a Commute from hell and I drive very aggressively. The only reason I had no CEL was the past 10-15K I knew she was dying and I milked her. The CEL would come on occasionally and the Car would stall. Winter is the only reason it stayed alive! At the end of summer - I was scared I wouldn't even make it to work, she did not like the Hot temps.

What was the history of your service on the car. How long did you get on plugs...etc...
