04 6MT Grinding Issue
I think we've pretty much all found that these transmissions are a bit fragile, but, something I've noticed, even after switching fluids in mine, is the transmission only grinds when it gets hot.
2nd, 4th, and 6th are the problem gears.
If I let the engine warm up to 185* or so in the driveway, and at that point the transmission is still cold, I can beat the hell out of it, including fast shifts into 2nd and 4th, and it won't grind...until I've driven for about 15 minutes.
So, the biggest question is...am I right to think mixing 50/50 of Redline MT-90 and Shockproof fluids would help this?
Thanks in advance.

Nothing really helps when they start grinding like this. Start saving for an s2 transmission.
Another thing might be trying to understand why yours went bad, sometimes the culprit is not the transmission itself but the clutch pedal.

It is a direct bolt in, no changes necessary.

Well, the clutch pedal bracket had been replaced in 2009 according to dealer records, so I hope that's not the case, it's not squeaking, or anything like that. I know the new fluid wouldn't solve it, but make it more liveable until I can come up with 900 dollars for a transmission, lol.
