So this got me a little worried. Read the following:

A few weeks ago I drove 263 miles to Hebron, OH, from West Lafayette, IN. I was gonna attend a RallyX race.
It was mostly highway mileage, and I didn't stop at all once the journey started. I started at a gas station, where I pumped the 8 fulla 93 octane fuel (the gas station was a Marathon station, where they used STP additives. Don't know if this matters, but let's be scientific).
Made it to the venue with 1/4 of a tank left (shows on the dial).
The 8 has a 12 gallon tank, which means it ate 3/4 of 12 gallons of gas, which is 9 gallons.
263/9 =~30MPG.
WTF???? Did my renny finally eat an apex seal or something?

You should know that the gas tank gauge is know to be mostly innacurate and varies wildly between 8s.
The first quarter on mine is gone after 30 miles, and the last one can last a good 100 miles.
My personal record is a little short of 280 miles on a full tank. If you haven't refueled since then, I suggest you wait until the "low gas" warning light comes on or even better if you live near a gas station, wait until the fuel pump starts whining. Then you'll really know.

Not really how a person would go about determining gas mileage.
If you have ever noticed, the first half always seems to last forever, then the other goes really quickly.

Lucky you... a Trooper escort. I had one of those this morning coming in to work. Really put the dampener on the drive this morning.

Lol..., I always thought it was 12 gallons, since when I fillup with the empty light on, it goes to 12.38~gal.
Anyway, this thread is now redundant. I'll go try some other means of finding mileage.

The Professor
1) Fill tank full with gas and reset trip odometer
2) Drive it regularly till the light comes on
3) fill it full of gas again, remember this number
So using the number on the odometer and the number of gallons we put in we now have an estimate of the gas mileage.
so
240 miles/13.52 gallons put in = 17.8 miles per gallon

The DOOD abides.
iTrader: (3)
MPG = [Miles Driven (miles)] / [Fill-up #2 (gallons)]
Using this manner you don't even have to use a full tank, rather start with a full tank and go as far as you want. Fill-up....repeat!
Hope this helps.
edit: I see static beat me too it. Nice simple explanation Static.

You can drive a couple of gallons past the light, but you'll never get it all the way down to empty.. From what I hear the car will stop running after using around 15 gallons (.9 left technically)
