Exclamation Would taking out the metal thingy behind the bumper be a bad idea! Pic inside!

I am changing my greddy intercooler for a larger one but to do so I need to take off this metal thingy (look at pic)
My questions is:
Would this have any bad impact on the car?? I mean! Am I messing with the frame or something???

it's a crumple zone and will increase your risk of injury/death if you take it off

Well besides getting crash to death twice!!
Would it affect the frame or anything else!!

I think it would be OK as long as you take out the metal thingy in front of the firewall.

If it lets you fit your stuff, it's a good idea.

Crashing your car without it would probably be a bad idea though, so don't do that.

I know some Japanese body kits require modification to accept the bar. It may not be built into J spec cars. If that is the case, it shouldn't affect the chassis.

you know, i think 5mph bumpers are only legally required in the US. could be that.

If that is the 5mph bumper (and I'm not sure it is! everything i say IS a lie after all.) You could remove it and nobody would be the wiser, but if you got into even a minor accident you run the risk of destroying your frame... Not sure it would be worth it .

Yah IMO I wouldn't take it out because if an accident happens and you cause extensive damage on your own car or on someone else's the insurance company may throw the charges back in your face because you modified that piece. IMO ask someone smart like MM or Ray to help you get it in properly or to get you a inter cooler that will fit the RX-8.

Or if you sell the car and the insurance adjuster finds it is missing, they can come back to get you. Since you made the car unsafe.

Mines gone...I figure the intercooler will crumple easier than that...so it should make a good cushion in a crash

Thanks again..
well since It is not my daily car I think I will go ahead and take it off!! I only use it on special occasions I was more worried about doing something bad to my frame just by taking it off...................

But I got it.... if I keep it off and I get in a crash this will happen to me

more like the frame itself will crash you into some meat sauce.

the foam is used for the 5mph impact standards.

the "metal thingey" he wants to remove transfers crash loads to the crumple zones of the car increasing the likelyhood of surviving a crash. Remove it and you've changed the dynamics of how the car would react in a front end crash.

Wait. He wants to remove HOW much of the front end of the car?

yeah. When i look at what you've circled there. No don't remove it. I was thinking you only meant the white stuff which I did not realize was foam.
