Why doesnt my engine shut down?

I noticed when I test drove an 8 that the engine shut down after exceeding 9K rpm. Well I had purchased my 8 shortly after test driving that one. Now that I have over 1500 miles on the engine I decided to push it to its LIMIT, well turns out there was no limit or if there is it consisted of blowing up the engine!! I brought it to 9.5K rpm and it didnt shut down (I was waiting for the engine to shut down but when I hit 9.5 I decided to lay off the gas before I caused permenant damage to the engine). Is this common? Does anyone else have this issue?

Yeah tell me about it (I beleive it was a demo car though so who ever purchases this car should be aware that the engine was not properly boken in). Hey cgrx what part of cali are you in?

Well the dealer tried feeding me some crap about how the rotry could handle up to 12K rpm. Is this true or is he or is he plowing crap down my throat??

What the rotary can handle is different from what the ECU will allow you. Trust me, you don't want to hit the fuel cut-off. It happens well after the beep...I've seen people do it - And no, I doubt it is 10K, at least not in reality.

It's an all to familiar episode - dealer salesman wanting to push the cars before their breakin time...

Come on MNAO get a grip on your dealers - this is a sports rotary - not a frickin Honda

Plus, you are 25 years old, right? Have you ever owned a rotary before this 8?
