Weird battery lead?

Hey guys, I need to change my battery and upon doing so, realized that my positive connector is L shaped and doesn't fit with the new batteries.

As you can see, all the new batteries have posts/leads on the middle of the battery while my connector only fits for batteries that have a post on the top left corner.

My negative connector can go wherever.
I'm wondering if anyone else has the same problem.

Basically I want to know if I should try to find a battery that has a post there (which is next to zero at least for quality batteries)
or if I should attempt to replace my positive connector with something more universal like my negative connector. (is this even possible with minimal effort?)

I'm thinking I should find a way to replace the connector since all new batteries have posts in the middle anyways.

Thanks for any input you guys can offer!

do you see in your first pic how there is a place were a post would come out if you had bought the right battery?
you need a 35r i believe, but a search will tell you for sure.

that battery is a group 35, all of the group 35s I've looked at have it there in the middle, including the orbitals, diehard, etc. all the brands that the forum recommends.

I didn't just shop for the batteries myself, I went to every tech and they punch in the year/make/model into their computers and pick out the ones specified.

But literally everything I looked at, the posts were in the middle.

I found some cheap ones that had it on the side where mine are but they aren't group 35.

Check it out, here is another battery the forum recommends, optima - which was actually what I tried first.

Posts are in the middle.

Or, how to DIY extend the positive battery cable to fit any terminal configuration:

Group 35 is the correct size. The Mazda right-angle pos. terminal is retarded.

I got a battery last year and the post was in the correct spot (not in the middle). I went to autozone and they punched in my vehicle info and handed me a bettery. Everything worked fine for me. Since then I relocated the battery to the trunk. This would solve your issue and also free up some space under the hood.
