The extended warranty is through a 3rd party that came with buying a certified pre-owned Mazda. I know going through a 3rd party can be a bitch and not really sure how easy they will be to work with. Especially if something major breaks. But I also have 1 yr remaining with the extended power train warranty Mazda provided with the engine recall. If my engine were to fail then I assume it would be covered under the extend power train warranty and not through the 3rd party.

Do you guys think I should get a compression check before the factory warranty expires or am I covered just the same with the power train warranty?

no, i don't think u need to get a compression check before your full warranty runs out -- definitely get it before you extended powertrain warranty does though! there's no point -- the powertrain warranty covers the engine, so why take the added cost of checking it now and againbefore your p/t runs out, if you still have a year left on your powertrain. you might want to get other stuff checked out that will not be covered by your extended powertrain warranty.

it might be a good idea to call mazda na directly and verify, with your vin, that you do have the extended powertrain warranty. i'd hate to see you get burned on it if for some reason you don't...

You should also confirm if the recall work (which I believe included a compression check) was performed by the prior owner or the dealer. I would guess it was done since it's pre-certified, but better to check then to go to the stealership and pay for it.

Another thing to ask mazda na I guess.
