You dont need to, but I suggest you to remove it, and put something else in it. lets say, RB's duct.

Removing it would be a lot of trouble for no benefit... the duct might help a little with a sealed intake, but since the K&N isn't sealed and is mostly sucking hot air from the engine bay there is little to no benefit to it either.

Is it possible to make a piece to seal an intake (K&N, HKS, etc.) and connect it to the VFAD?

Would there be any benefits or is that just a stupid idea?

I just ordered the new k&n intake and I was wondering about the vfad also.

If you remove the vfad do you have to replace it with anything (ie ram air duct?)
Are there any positive or negative affects to not having the vfad?
Does anyone have any pictures of the VFAD?

Also I have heard that the new k&n intake does not line up well with the current air duct, is this correct?

Thanks for any help.

with the hood closed, there isnt much room for the intake to suck hot air from the back of the intake. needless to say your car is moving forward. alot of air will come into the front, and push the hot air out of the car.(push it back)

I just did the RB duct with K&N version 2. and its working well. Power Im not sure but I can "feel" that the engine love fresh air.
