Use of fuel additives/cleaners

I couldn't really find anything solid in a search. Does anyone with experience with rotaries know if it's safe/beneficial to use them? It seems that rotaries seem prone to carbon build up and other than letting them rip up to redline, what are some methods to keep that from happening?

The manual says not to use fuel additives, but I think other auto manufaturers say this about cylinder engines.

Anyone with some inside scoop, please post.

I started using fuel injector cleaners once a month on my 91 RX7 (215k miles) after an aux port started sticking. After about six months of that and more vigorous driving I seemed to have unstuck the valve. I credit it to the fuel injector stuff, tho driving it harder may've also done the trick.

Most additives, and by most, I mean 99% of them, are nothing. Some may also interfere with the oil injected. Don't bother.

But I bought the double strength placebo! And it really seemed to work.

If you read the sticky post called The use of Xylene, it explains whatthose aditives are and why they dont really do much in such small amounts.
