Turbo Talk
I was Watching stuff On YOutube and i saw an Rx 8 with a turbo it sound nice and all. but i was debating rather to buy a turbo or to build it up i dunno any more so i decided to as you guy the people from the RX-8 club so i want to hear opinion.

There are so many factors to balance that if cost is your primary concern, you may not be ready for F/I. I mean no disrespect nor arrogance but this is true. There is no such thing as a cheap, inexpensive, nor universally affordable turbo kit. By the time you get done you are going to spend a couple thousand dollars more than you thought.

well that is true, i guess i will just have to work on the suspension and learn how to drive my Rx-8 better because with you saying that i think i am not really ready For F/I yet on the Rx8 well thank for the input

Is your car still totally stock? If so, I usually suggest that my clients learn what the full capabilities of the car, and themselves, are before dumping money into it. Be the best driver you can be and every subsequent dollar you spend will be better maximized. The best way to learn to drive better is to join NASA or the SCCA and enter beginner's driving events like the HPDEs that are out there. Also look up "Grassroots Motorsports Magazine".

the only thing i got on it is the Borla Exhaust which came with the car and that is it .
i was looking at the SCCA earlier i was thinking about my friends was in it with his Rx-7 he love it at there event

I had an absolutely GREAT time a couple years ago when I drove from MI to GA to meet up with a bunch of people from this forum who have since become my friends. They raced at Road Atlanta in a NASA HPDE event. My having met them eventually led to my quitting Ford and moving to AZ next spring to open my own shop. Apparently, my visit also influenced a few of them to fearlessly modify their 8s, with one recently getting a supercharger.

i dunno, but i try. say, what are PPFs? and will the ignition coils you are making be better than the OEM ones? if so, i want a set. but back on turbo talk, has anyone heard about a VVT turbo or a foil bearing turbo. I have been asking it for a couple weeks, and no one seems to respond.

PPF = Power Plant Frame (A power plant support structure for supporting a power plant of a vehicle includes a center frame extending in a lengthwise direction of the car body. The center frame is connected, at its lengthwise ends, to front and rear cross members, disposed forward and rearward of the power plant and extending between front side frames. A front mount is secured to the center frame before the power plant and connects the power plant to the center frame.)
VVT = Variable Vane Turbo (Vanes inside a turbocharger control the acceleration of gases inside the turbo and thus the speed at which the turbocharger itself can accelerate the compressor and produce boost. Tight vanes produce a quick spooling turbo with little lag but one that can quickly choke the engine at higher speeds. This is because the engine is trying to push to much exhaust through the turbo and the vanes are constricting it. Wider spaced vanes can allow a turbo to have more top end capability but at the expense of spool time (otherwise known as turbo lag).
With a variable vane turbo the vanes themselves can be adjusted on the fly allowing the turbo to spool quickly and still be able to produce good efficiency at higher engine speeds. The technology has been about for a few years in diesel engines but has been slow in coming to gasoline engines due to increased exhaust temperatures found in gasoline engines. These increased temperatures cause lower rates of reliability. The technology has been used in gasoline engines most recently in the 2006-2007 Porsche 911.)
Foil Bearing Turbo (A turbocharger includes a foil bearing assembly mounted in a center housing between a compressor and a turbine of the turbocharger. The bearing assembly forms a unit installable into the center housing from one end thereof, and the center housing is a one-piece construction. The bearing assembly includes a foil thrust bearing assembly disposed between two foil journal bearings. The journals foils are mounted in annular bearing carriers fixedly mounted in the center housing. A radially inner portion of a thrust disk of the thrust bearing assembly is captured between a shaft and a shaft sleeve of the turbocharger. The center housing defines cooling air passages for supplying cooling air to the foil bearings, and optionally includes a water jacket for circulating engine coolant through the center housing.)

im not asking what the vvt turbo and foil bearing turbo is. i was asking what the ppf acronym is. but im asking if any of you have heard of these turbos, and if they have been used in 8s. read what i said, you will see that i am not asking what they are, i am asking if anyone has heard of them.
