TSB - 91 Octane ????

My dealer called to see how I liked the car ( I've had my 8 for 2 weeks now!). I told him I loved it and have been experiencing better mileage with 89 Octane. He said he got a TSB this week that says Mazda has changed their stance of " recommending" 93 Octane to " recommending" 91 Octane. Anyone else here this? I was surprised I didn't se it on this board before he told me. Could be fact...could be fiction....I haven't had the TSB in my hands to verify.

most likly fact since they don't have 93 octane in a lot of the places in the country..i think cali only has 91...or at least 91 in most of the state. so it's kinda hard for some to put 93 in if it isn't readily avaliable. just my .02 by th eway higher octane really only prevents knock/detonation more. there has been a hella lot of threads about this. so i'll stop babbling...hehe but i will leave you with the customary answer to your question.....use the search option..heheh :p sorry i couldn't resist

Yea I've read all the Octane threads. I just thought an official TSB from Mazda...if true....might put the Octane questions to bed for good. Don't be flaming the messenger! Just trying to bring some relief to all those that think their car my explode if the put lower than 93 in their cars.

hehe aren't there a buncha people who put 87 in there 8's? they haven't blown up....well at least to my knowledge (i hope not). i think the manuel says premium (doesn't give an octane rating) unleaded fuel. isn't that 91+ octane? hah abut i guess it's all symantics really.

sorry didn't mean to come off as shooting the messanger wasn't my intention :o

I don't believe that because we aren't offered 91. It's either 93 or 89 so I'll stick to my 93 :p Hope you continue to enjoy your 8!

When did they ever recommend 93 octane? The owners's manual has 91 octane.

I heard that lower octane burns faster, and should be used as the RPM's get over 8K to get the burning done before the mixture gets through the motor.
