tire pressure fraud :(

i took my car in to the dealership to figure out why the check engine light was on. besides this my tire pressure sensor was broke once before and the light stayed on. i had it fixed and all was good, then it came back on. so i filled up all the tires and it still stayed on. i figured it was broke again so i told the dealership about it when i had the cel looked at. they said it was on because the tires were inflated too much......is that possible?? please let me know.

thanks

R.

The CEL should not come on for tire pressure being out of spec. The TPMS light will come on at 28psi at the low end. I don't recall the high end right now.

Yes, TPMS will throw an error for pressures over a certain number (that I can't recall either).

What actual pressures are you running? Do you check the pressures before adding or removing pressure? If so, when do you do it?

Never go over in the summer or when running your car fast.

Low end = ~26psi
High end = ~49 psi (changed from 42 after further review!)

Scott..........I'm glad you chimed in because I've been wanting to ask what the hell is hang off the front end of that A-10? I can't tell as I'm going blind!
Anyway..........my memory might be failing on the high end of PSI, so I'll try it this weekend just for the hell of it and see. I know for sure mine goes off at 26 on the low end.....remember that seal problem I fought on the new rims for awhile! Jeez!

Over-inflate is ~49lbs then for sure then....thanks Scott.
Couple of interesting things in that pdf link.

Torque all wheel nuts to 88 to 118 N.m (65 to 87 ft. lb.) in a criss-cross pattern. Remember this old debate about torque on wheels? TSB..........came out that says 108 ft. lb.

CAUTION: The wheel unit air pressure stem is made from aluminum and can be damaged. Do not
tilt or use excessive side force when checking air pressure or filling tire with air. Some
tire pressure gauges and air filling nozzles have extended tips, which can provide
enough leverage to easily bend or break the wheel unit.

Un-bolt the TPMS wheel unit (11mm deep socket). Allow the sensor to fall into the wheel.
NOTE: This will prevent damage to the sensor while the tire is removed from the wheel with a tire removal
machine.
Makes perfect sense, but I wonder how many places and/or people don't do this. Probably what happened to mine and others?

Yep....that's why I pasted it in there. Think I will exercise a little more CAUTION, just to be on the safe side.
