Thinking of getting a RX..
First off I am new to the RX/Rotary world..
I found a RX8 on Craigslist, he is asking 3800 or trade, He is interested in my 2000 Expedition, but the car has some issues..
specs
2004 RX8 6 speed 144k miles, body seems excellent, 20s
Issues.. It has been sitting since March. Owner cranked it 2 weeks ago, motor was fine, but was smoking pretty bad. They talked to a mechanic and said it needed a gasket. But will cost $1000 so the mechanic had said.. Last weekend he attempted to crank it again but battery was too weak, so he went and tried to jump start it, the car would hit, but not crank..
From the info, it doesn't leak, didn't have any weird sounds from the motor and had full power.. So with this being said, what could be wrong with it? and would it be a decent deal??

anything between 3000\5000$ to fix the various issues the car has, around 400$ + tires to replace the shitty, useless, underperforming 20s.
The issues can be found through a search here.

the rear bumper was resprayed as well.
If you have around 6000$ to add to the purchase cost right off the bat you may consider this car. However with 10k$ you can purchase a decently running model that's at least headache free.

Lovely.. Well I did do a little research, and with the mechanic saying seals need to be replaced, and he would charge $1000 to fix it, I thought it was a bit off due to the kit is 1200+ ... than found out if the apex seals are blown he could have damaged the rotor and housing and cheapest I found there was 900 a piece for either/or.. But needed other opinions on it..
I do appreciate the speedy response, cause I was going to go look at it today.. figures that it would be way over priced for what it was

It's 10:30 am here.
Rebuilding an engine the proper way is expensive. Most builders don't replace the housings to lure in customers but if you do it your engine's actual life will be that of the housings, not that of the new parts inside. Of course there are extremely good builders out there (Mazmart is the best place to buy remanufactured engines built the proper way, for instance).
The rx8 is an expensive car to properly maintain and service, just because it has a low resale value it doesn't mean it's a car that everybody can afford. Sure it can be reliable but you have to know what you're doing.
If you really like it then keep looking!
