Trying to help a local guy out. SSV is clanking, some power/acceleration issues. If it didn't start so easy and idle so well I'd think the engine is on the way out. Going to try a solenoid swap next which is why I asked.
Well in this case it was need a new engine time

The “clanking” was from the actuator arm being loose on the SSV shaft and the bad rotor seals pulsing air back into the intake was causing the SSV to flutter back & forth. Which the shaft then fluttering back and forth in the loose actuator arm was creating the metallic clanking sound. I came to the conclusion that it was probably fluttering quietly to start but over time the shaft wanting to flutter while the actuator wants to keep the arm from moving ends up causing the shaft to wallow itself loose in the actuator arm, and then it will start clanking ...

That pulsing is there whether the engine is bad or not . It's from the carried over exhaust gas which is at atmospheric pressure inside the chamber , as the intake ports open under vacuum the exhaust gas is sucked into the manifold creating that pulse .

It gets a lot worse on a bad engine though. This one also had the infamous oil puking issue.

DOA ....
