Strange Idea

Had another Ducati go by yesterday and felt jealous that their little v-twin sounds like a small block Chevy. I know that the v-twin and valves are part of it, but wondered if anyone had played around with motorcycle mufflers on the RX-8? I would thing the air flow would be similar. I am looking for a deeper tone from my 8.

my friend owns a motorcycle shop, and he's got mufflers lying around. there are some nice ones too, some are repackable.

they are all too small for a rotary though, the Rx8 uses a ~70mm pipe, motorcycles are like 30mm.... you'd need like 4 motorcycle mufflers

May be wrong here but i always thought that the tone / pitch of an engine is more or less dictated by the engine?

i.e. you will never get an inline 4 to sound like a v twin regardless what exhaust you put in

There is a clip of a 911 fitted with an Ls engine, using the Porsche exhaust system, sounds identical to a stock Porsche.
