starting to worry. engine bogging/sputtering between 4 and 6k

This has been a problem now for about a month or two...closer to two months.

I give the car plenty of time to warm up every morning. i keep it under 3k until engine is fully warmed up.

I have an AEM intake, and exoticspeed catback.

53k on engine.

It feels like it loses alot of power and it makes the weirdest noise when accelerating past 4.5 rpms and it gets louder and worse the higher i go. i figured if i went higher rpms it would go away but it gets worse.

now what bothers me is, it will be just fine one day and then the next i have to baby the car the whole drive.

and just the past couple of days the car sounds like its struggling alot to just start.

some things i think are the problem:

clogged cat (get a mid pipe?)
new sparkplugs/wires (for the starting problem)

other than that i really dont know whats wrong.

Thanks in advanced for the help!

When was the last time you changed your spark plugs? wires and coils?

what kind of sound are you hearing? slight rattle underneth the car as you accelerate?

I know this'll be a long shot but, did you reset your ecu after you put on that exhaust and CAI?? Just asking because some people have experienced some issues similar to that when they didn't.

you may want to consider doing all of those. Change spark plugs and wires. check the coils while you're in there. The slight rattle could be a cat that's crapped out. I know mine made that sound. It didn't have any problems tho. A slight loss in power but nothing too bad. but when combined with my failing spark plugs it dropped performance for sure.

any CEL's??

-And go for a midpipe your cat is clogged(my way to help convince you to buy something else haha)

you really think i should?

does it sound like it would be along the lines of engine failure?

i thought about doing it when i first went over 50k but then i put my intake in and i was like AH damn

so if i do get a compression check i should put my stock intake back in right lol?

only do a compressino check if the above fixes don't work.....

I personally would put the stock intake back in(if you have it) just so it you would have a bad motor they would not hastle u with denying your warranty even though they have to have proof that the aftermarket part was what caused the problem but to be safe i"d make it stock as possible(engine wise that is)

SEARCH NOOOB!!! haha just kidding....

Plugs the stock NGK's are the best....rumor has it amazon has them for like 66 buck or something advance auto has them for 80 buck for all for most places are more expensive
Coils-finishline performance is 30bucks a piece(need 4) for stocks but the BHR upgrade alot of ppl around her have but i'm not sure of teh price....

And wires well I'm not really sure stocks are aobut 60 or 80 bucks i think some ppl here use Nology but someone else will have to chime in to verify that

I agree on plugs coils wires....What octane fuel are you using? It could be MIAC(Marbles In A Can sound) from low octane fuel or a carbon build up which could cause preignition(MIAC sound)

well when i first got the car i was putting in the cheapest gas. after reading up on it and even seeing the premium preffered sticker on my gas tank lid i only use premium.

but id have to say for the last 4 to 5 months i have been using premium gas. octane 93 i think.

and this MIAC is what i hear.

ok no for nology.

i found some nkg spark plugs for 20.00 at fluid. all i need is 2 correct? now the wires and coils is it really that good to replace them? or can i leave the originals?

i will end up replacing them its just im really tight on funds right now. i plan on cleaning maf when i get home from work as well as checking everything else out too.

midpipe is another thing i want to get beceause more than likely my cat is clogged.

oh and i do need to restart ecu.

funny thing though my way to work this morning. the car ran great no weird noises bogging, stuttering, MIAC nothing. it was nice to actually hear my baby roaring haha i patted the dashboard and was encouraging her.

poor thing i think she has asthma haha the car the car!

you need 4 spark plugs, 2 trailing and 2 leading...racing beat wires are good, and yeah change out your coils when you can

your situation is almost identical to what happen to me a few months ago..... change coils, wires, plugs and cleaned MAF then BLAMO problem solved. Car feels like a whole new car, got a bit of tourqe back in the process.....

If it for sure is preignition and all these things don't fix it then do a decarbon cleaning with Seafoam, BG44K, Zoom(Mazdas). MIAC sound usually wont happen in cooler weather, but will show up in the hot afternoons. Thats why in hotter climates the Throttle Body Bypass helps.
